Flax Oil Sources

I'm quite bummed that the $20 bottle of flax oil from Natural Grocers is rancid, and I'll have to throw it away.  I tried Piping Rock, and it seemed a bit watered down for some reason, but it tasted plenty fresh.  What sources / brands of flax oil do folks recommend?  It's too expensive to throw away!!!  TIA!

Natural Grocers sold you foul oil and won't take it back, Ester? That is a bummer. I used Puritan's Pride, primarily because of the price. It was always good, for like 5 or 6 years, and then I got a bad batch. I contacted them and they refunded my money. I also used Piping Rock, and it was fine but had a different taste and was darker in color. I think the Puritans is golden and the P Rock is pressed from the darker seeds, but that is just an observation.

Hi Ester,

After getting rancid oil from two sources, I decided to try Omega Nutrition.  I buy the 32 ounce bottles on the subscription basis for the discounted price of $28.79 a bottle.  They give me notice of a shipment by email so I can postpone it if I don’t need it.   It has a fresh taste and smell and I am rather picky about that.  It is more than I want to pay, so I have to adjust my already tight budget.  I think the price is close to Barleans, but the taste of Barleans oil was getting worse for me.  I’m very pleased with the Omega oil quality and customer service during the past two years I’ve been ordering from them.

Best, Marilyn

I haven't tried to take it back.  I will do so.

Thanks, Marilyn! I will give them a go!

Unfortunately PP runs out and you cant get it now

I live in the U.K. & use Biona flax seed oil, it’s £6.50 per bottle, pretty reasonable!

Or £5.20 in Sainsbury's. You can also get Clearspring quite easily.

I used to use Sainsbury’s flaxseed oil but they store it on their shelves which is always above 12 degrees & Budwig says it should be cold stored, their flaxseed oil always tastes terrible & I think it’s because of this reason!

Ours always has a very small stock, so I doubt it is on the shelves for long, and you can't tell how it is stored when you buy online. The only one I have ever had that tasted rancid (and I've been buying it now for over 20 years) came from Holland & Barrett - never again! The Clearspring one that I get directly from them always tastes OK, but then so does the one from our local Sainsburys. When I get Clearspring, I usually get a case of 8 for £41, plus a few coconut oils to get to £50 free delivery. The bottle is slightly smaller than the Biona one.

Nobody cold stores/transports flax oil all the way from field to fare. Dr B also preferred glass bottles, but that again is hard to come by in this age. I used Puritan's Pride for nearly the entire time I was active on Budwig and it healed my cancer. I did get one bad batch from PP, but they refunded my money when I made them aware. Piping Rock is another I used. Theirs is darker, which I attributed to pressing the brown seed, and tasted a little different. I preferred the PP, but they would run out on occasion and I would have to substitute.

I bought a gallon of this flaxseed oil off Amazon a few weeks ago and I have been thoroughly impressed with it. Previously I had been using Puritan's pride.

I buy 12 from Ocado, it’s very reasonable & has never tasted bad in all the time since I switched away from Sainsbury’s!

Not that I think it is a major issue, but I don't see any reference to being organic. I didn't use organic cottage cheese, so as I say it may not be a big deal with the oil.
