"Fake" NanoVNAs?

I was looking on Amazon and found a Black Friday sale for one, but the statement on the NanoVNA site about some being fakes and unsupported made me ask... is this one real?

Personally, I'd not buy from Amazon as you really don't know what they'll
send you. R&L Electronics sells ONLY the genuine articles: randl.com.

Official retailers are listed on the official site:

The link you posted is one being sold by AURSINC, which IS one of the
official sellers listed on the NanoVNA site. For those of you looking at
similar links, make sure that AURSINC is the actual seller, rather than
another seller that is claiming to sell AURSINC products. AURSINC is also
offering a special Black Friday price on the NanaVNA-H and two day Prime
delivery, so they may be a particularly good option right now.

The SeeSii store on Amazon was formerly listed as a source of authentic
NanoVNA products but is no longer listed, so they may have turned to the
dark side and started selling clones.

i would buy an saa2n instead

your find is an older version with a clock up to 300megs and 900meg and 1.,5g is made with 3rd and 5th harmonic (with way lower dynamic range)

newer v2 (like the saa2n) have a clock up to 4.4ghz (performance is good up to 3.5 or so) and newest (like the litevna64) have a clock up to 6ghz

so in my view the older "normal" nanovna are not as good as the newer onrs with two clocks

Hi Dulcey

Please , why SEESII NanoVNA becomes clones ? What changed ? Sorry i dont understand what mean authentic ? Authentic to what ? Schematic designe ? Circuit board PCB ? Or components selection ? Really confused between authentic and clones, what is the main difference ? Did clones means bad performances or just commercial right of Eddy developper ?

they are all clones, cousins, brothers and sisters
boosting the high end performance (lower noise) can be made with adding a few caps on the power rails (main noise is from the display rattling on the 3v line) ...

The SAA-2N also has more-rugged type N connectors and steel case, and the supplied cables and calibration standards seem well-made and sturdy. I have it and two other nanoVNA versions and the SAA-2N is the one I always seem to reach for.

I once needed a NanoVNA. Bought the cheapest one available on Amazon with next-day delivery. Works well, and I have updated it several times with the "official" firmwares.

They are all probably built on the same (Open Source and freely available) schematics and board designs, so I don't really see any reason to worry. Sellers on Amazon would have too much of a reputation to lose selling non-working items. Plus, here in Europe, Amazon allows free returns during at least 2 weeks, normally longer. So, if I get something that doesn't work, in the next days it's backk to Amazon for a full refund.

OK guys,

Over the years I have purchased over 1k$ of the sort of cell we are
looking for, i.e. 18650 and they are REAL. Here's the site:
https://batteryhookup.com/    The only problem is shipping, it's best to
buy until you exceed the lowest shipping cost offered. Instead of me
trying to explain all this just go to the site and check it out. If you
live in the Bensalem, Pennsylvania area you can pick up for FREE. Hope
that helps. (they are a family owned business)
