sBITX V3 and 64BIT Questions
Hi all,
I recently upgraded (finally) to the latest 64bit image. This is my first try with the 64 bit build.
I had a V2 Radio (serial # 0001 !!)
I backed up and restored my settings, and everything was looking good. Then, while being a little careless, smoked the finals. Whoops. Easily fixable.
But, why wait when I also have a V3 board I purchased previously for a custom build. I swapped it into my V2 case. Works fine with the stock build.
So here's the thing. The 64 bit build I already have from my V2 has my backed-up settings from the V2 which includes the calibration settings that are no longer needed on the V3 radios.
Can I just swap the microSD into the new one, or do I need to start from scratch, or delete those calibration settings first?
I have a few 64bit 4.2 comments as well. Just things I noticed:
--My Web interface is good, except the FT8 screens are corrupted. Text overruns and calls and locations prefixed with control chars.
--When clicking on a user calling CQ DX <CALLSIGN>, my radio responded DX W2NDG FN21 instead of <CALLSIGN> W2NDG FN21
--I can't get a USB headset to work, even with the utility
--Running QSSTV causes the sBITX app to lock up
Other than that, this is great software. I love the additional features. Thanks!

Hi Neil,
I'm glad you decided to update the 64-bit version. I probably deduced from your post that you don't read the forum discussions or don't read them by topic. Because more information has appeared about what you described. My v2 is only the 0023rd, although at first I didn't think of it as a complete device, but I realized that the screen cutout was not that simple, so I modified it after two days. Coming to your questions: The ft8 problems are caused by the original program, the 64-bit version did not handle them. If you uploaded the latest (ELF) image, a fix was released because they noticed that the usb headset and qsstv were not working properly.
Therefore, when you return to the Image description, you will find the description for the fix there.
Also read my posts about qsstv, because there are many small pitfalls that can cause it not to work.
Regarding the v2 and v3 pcb replacement: both panels have their own hardware.ini. These will help you with a basic setup if you don't have the original hardware.ini.
Remember when you got the device, we had to set this up ourselves?
So always have a copy of a previous, well-functioning system, because you can fall back to it if necessary.
Power FET failure: if you don't like to use a soldering iron and repair it often, then use a current-limiting power supply, because it will save you a lot of trouble. At first, I powered the device from a akkumulator and didn't use it for transmission yet, because I didn't have an antenna (I dismantled my previous antennas). I also had to replace the power FETs once. I bought 10 pieces and numbered them, then sorted them by opening voltage with a transistor meter.
I installed the two closest values, which are still in there, but in the meantime I made more than seven thousand QSOs in ft8, ft4, bpsk, olivia, sstv modes, except ssb and cw. It's interesting, isn't it, that I left out two previously frequently used modes.
First sstv with an external sound card (wb2cba type), then qsstv.
A lot has been said, get to work and be successful. If possible, fix only one thing at a time and check the operation.

qsstv became usable later, thanks to W4WHL with sbitx. --

Gyula,
Thank you for responding and for all the help you've provided to this forum!
I do follow the forum, but not every message. I understand about the hardware.ini file now. I just wasn't sure if the version 3 board relied on it at all. I can grab the one my V3 came with since I saved that MicroSD as/is. Regarding the updates for the USB headset, I ran the latest hotfix but still couldn't get mine to work. I'll dig a little further, I was just looking to see what others had experienced. I probably should have explained that better. I'll also dig into the QSSTV posts a little more.
I am actually both an experienced kit-builder and a Linux hobbyist, and I deal with it at work. I had an unused V3 board in stock that I bought for my Ham Radio University lecture last year, and I intended to use it as the base for a headless sBITX project, but I never got that far, partly because I made the insane decision to go to grad school while still working full time this year. It was easy to just pop the board in the V2 case and go on. I already have a set of finals for it, but I haven't spent much time at my workbench lately.
I searched the forum for some of the things I asked about, but the overload of results can be a bit intimidating. Again, thank you for responding and pointing me in the right direction.

In sBITX-toolbox64, the sBITX Toolbox Guide v2.6_64.pdf contains help regarding the USB headset.
