cover photo

Hi there.

Re the Owner’s Manual instructions on changing the cover photo: there is no Browse button on the Cover Photo page. There is a button called “choose file” but it is not active.

What should I do?

I don't think you're on the right page.  It should be https://groups.io/g/GROUPNAME/coverphoto where you replace GROUPNAME with the name of your group.  All of mine show the Browse button.

Duane, the link you provide takes me to the page I’ve been on. I am in Admin/Settings/Cover photo. I have not been able to replace the stock groups.io elephant photo because the “choose file” button is not active. The “Set Cover Photo” button is active, but it needs a file to set. Here is the screen shot. I’m using a MacBook; is this a problem?

Hmm, I'm not sure what's going on.  The screenshot shows that you're owner, so you should be able to change it.  I'm not familiar with Mac, but that shouldn't make any difference.  Looking at other recently created groups, some of them have changed the cover photo, so I don't think it's a limit of a Basic/free group.  I don't know why you would see Choose File instead of Browse.  You may have found a bug.  You'd need to report that on the beta group.

I don't recall ever seeing a Browse button here. The Choose File button may appear to be inactive, but it's not. Have you tried clicking on it?

I see a Browse button. This is in Firefox on Windows 10.

That's strange. In every one of my groups, it says Choose Photo. See Kirstin's screenshot.

Maybe it only says Browse if you've never set one before?

Bruce

I’ve set a cover photo in another group and the button still says Browse. Maybe it’s a Mac vs. Windows thing? I’ll check with Mark so I can ensure that the documentation is accurate.

No, on Win/FF it always says Browse, whether there's one set or not.

You guys are blowing my mind.

I get a "Choose File" button, just like Kristin. See screenshot below.

This occurs in both Edge and Chrome. I have not loaded Firefox on my PC (yet).

Me too, although with “Välj fil” as the equivalent in Swedish.

I didn’t mention that I’m using Safari, just in case that matters.

I'm using MacOS Catalina 10.15.7. When I view the Cover Photo & Icon controls using  Firefox 83.0, "Browse" is displayed. When I use Chrome Version 87.0.4280.88, Cover Photo and Icon controls both display "Choose File."

I just looked at one of my groups in Edge (on Windows 10), and sure enough, the button there is labeled Choose File (!). So maybe the Browse label is just in Firefox?

I’ve sent all this info to Mark.

So according to Mark, the button label for selecting a file on the cover photo settings page is set by the browser (he was actually unaware that it was different in Firefox). Apparently changing the button label for Firefox to match other browsers would require a fairly substantial effort, so I'll update the Owners Manual to mention that the button could be called "Choose File" or "Browse" depending on the web browser.

Good info. However the problem is that the “upload file” button (in Safari) is not functional.

The non-functioning button probably needs to be reported as a bug in the Beta group: https://beta.groups.io/g/main/topics

Nina, do I have to join this beta group to report the bug?
