Intro

My principal hobby and career interest has been in electronics, but an early fascination with first VHF and UHF radio frequency techniques and systems, which led to an interest in microwaves, and ultimately to millimeter wave technology, led to the need for machine tools.  I bought a Craftsman drill press in 1958, an Atlas 10D lathe in 1960, and a Clausing 8520 vertical milling machine in 1963, and have used these tools and others regularly since.  A recent project has been construction of a mini-EDM (Electro-discharge-machine) with the plan to use it to cut rectangular holes in brass waveguide flanges -- a step normally done commercially by broaching.  This machine is now working, but there are so many electrical variables, and choices of dielectric fluids, it looks like it is going to require some time to optimize performance.

I’m licensed as a radio amateur as KG6OJI with my main interest being bench-top experimentation.  My home is in the U.S., just north of San Francisco, California and the Golden Gate bridge.

While I have always gone by my middle name of Bruce, my full name is Edwin Bruce Hunter.  This is why you may see ebrucehunter on my postings.

Does anyone on the list happen to have a manual for the Starrett 2700-series digital indicators? I have a 2740-1, 2-inch indicator, but am uncertain how to access some of its features. As I do not bel

New to group; DIY EDM Sinker...is Water OK for DIelectric?
Martin, I have experimented with both distilled and tap water as a dielectric fluid in a mini-edm machine. While water works, the tool wear rate has been excessive. I have been hoping to obtain some n
