Vintage Singers Group Policies
IMPORTANT NOTICE: MEMBERS WHO POST MESSAGES WITHOUT FOLLOWING THESE INSTRUCTIONS WILL PROBABLY HAVE THEM REJECTED.
This is the Vintage Singers Sewing Machine Group. Note at the bottom of this message is the link to where other brand messages should be posted, but on this Group, anything except Vintage Singer Sewing Machines is off topic. By separating the messages in this manner, it is a lot easier to find information that you need in the Groups' archives.
Messages to the Group board MUST be trimmed of the major portion of previous messages, headers, and white space, or they will be rejected. A short portion of a previous message for continuity is fine, but make it clear which portion is old and which is new. You are “writing to” thousands of people, so it is unfair to make them read the same things over and over. We reserve the right to edit messages.
Simple thank you messages should go directly to the intended recipient instead of thousands of other people in the Group.
If you post spam, porn, or an invitation to a social networking group, you will be permanently banned from the Vintage Singers Group.
We are strict about staying on the topic of Vintage Singer Sewing Machines. We are glad that there are other Groups where a wide variety of subjects may be discussed. This IS NOT one of them.
Crossposting (duplicate/similar messages), between groups with related missions, is unfair to both groups and their members. It causes many people to read the same things repeatedly, and often do research for answers that have already been provided. For this reason, it will result in your message being refused or removed, and in extreme cases, could result in your removal from the Group.
One-time announcements of events and gatherings of interest to all are permitted.
Messages in Vintage Singers Group may not be reproduced in other venues.
You are encouraged to avail yourself of the vast amount of information in the Vintage Singers Files, Database, and Photos sections, but they may not be reproduced on other on line venues, or printed copies distributed outside the group without permission of the poster. Copyright is taken seriously.
Members in Vintage Singers Group are on moderated status. This avoids a lot of spam and incorrect answers.
Discussions about price/value of machines:
If you ask ten people what a machine is “worth”, you will get eleven opinions. Obviously, it is “worth” what someone will pay for it. But there are too many variables to form a reasonable consensus. Therefore, Vintage Stitchers Groups will not allow messages relating to the price/value of a specific machine. Likewise, it is prohibited to call attention to an open offer to sell on any venue, because doing so could result in another Group Member losing an opportunity that they had been privately watching. However, constructive dialog regarding known transactions that have previously occurred, is allowed.
You may mention something that you have for sale that is Vintage Singers related, one time, with a stated location and price. You may also ask if other members have a Vintage Singers related item that you need. Contact and or negotiations after the initial query or offering should be done off group.
Photos must be approved before they go into a Group Album. To be approved, they must have relevance to something being discussed or unique value. Just “showing off” the same models as are already shown causes too many duplications. You may create your personal album in another venue and link to it in a message.
Before asking questions, you are encouraged to search the Group Archives and Files, in all 3 of the Vintage Stitchers Groups. Vintage Singers is well over 20 years old, there are thousands of messages (on topic) from which to gather information, and the other two Groups are rapidly accumulating valuable information, as well.
If you have a complaint, it should be privately directed to the Group Owners. Other groups have other rules, so you have options from which to choose. We do not allow complaints about other Groups on Vintage Stitchers Groups, and we do not expect any discussion about Vintage Stitchers Groups to appear elsewhere. Comments or opinions about Vintage Stitchers Group Rules may be sent directly to the Group Owners/Moderators.
