Re: New Nano-VNA-H4 from SEESII User guide?

You also need 1 more little kit (about $15 on Amazon) with a 50 ohm load stub and extra F-F barrel connector. The VNA only comes with 1 of each and you need 2 for the LOAD calibration in order to do 2-port (S21) tests... Search Amazon for "sma calibration kits" and you'll find it

Re: New Nano-VNA-H4 from SEESII User guide?

Don: I think his main concern was about how to turn it on and align it, set
freq range and see SWR, for starters.
I'm sure that the HP and others allow the user to calculate the "solution
to the generalized eigenfenster equation" --- but the info provided with
the nanovna-h4 is a single page with an undecipherable flow chart. Several
others have directed him to the abundant online videos--- they are also
helpful.
I decided to buy one of those H4 items on line--- amazing little package,
especially for the price! [My set of adapters from SMA male/female to UHF
and BNC male/female cost me nearly what the unit cost!]

Download this APK file from my Google drive and install it on your Android phone.

It worked on my Android 13 smartphone.

Re: Software for Android

Hello,
The program I use on my Android phone, tablet or computer running android, is available on the Play Store.
It is called, StmDfuUsb. It will load bin, dfu and hex versions of FW.
I use it exclusively for my NanoVNA H and H4 as well as my TinySA and TinySA ULTRA.
Hope this helps,

I too see the nanovna web app in the store, but it won't let me download it
as it tells me it is for an older device.

Yes. G4WNC Mike Richards published a book that is called NanoVNA H4
Explained.
I bought the Kindle edition from Amazon.
It's just what you (transl.: "me") need.

That flow chart table they pack with it is a cruel trick!

Re: New Nano-VNA-H4 from SEESII User guide?

Once you learn one VNA, no matter whose or which one, you will be able to
use them all. The basics of the instrument aren't that different from the
NANOVNA to the very expensive professional units. It doesn't matter which
variation you have on the theme. Once you've conquered the knowledge on
how to use one, it's transferable to all of the VNAs. Just like learning
how to properly use a DMM, once you learn how to use it, you can get along
using about any DMM. Of course the NANOVNA or any VNA for that matter is
FAR more complex than a DMM.

If there were a technician "step-by-step" detailed guide, you'd never
arrive at the knowledge of using the VNA. That goes for about everything
in life. If we were given a "step-by-step" detailed guide addressing how
to navigate life, we wouldn't exist as a living, breathing, reasoning,
thinking, biological human being.

I realize this isn't the new way of "learning", but it works. Learning
step-by-step procedures does not truly instill a skill, knowledge, or an
understanding on how to properly execute a task. Good old fashioned
buckling down and learning still works well.

I realize there are those in the group who will take this message as
griping, and hostile to the new philosophies. So be it. I do NOT mean it
that way, but just relating what 78 years of life WITHOUT a step-by-step
set of detailed directions has taught me.

They are all "close enough". 90% overlap.

Re: New Nano-VNA-H4 from SEESII User guide?

Once you learn how to use about any VNA well, you won't need an "Users
Guide". I learned many decades ago on the job using professional HP
equipment and have never looked back. The NANOVNAs came naturally to me.
Once again and manyh times over, thank you to the creators of the
NANOVNAs!! So, button down and learn one well and you'll have no trouble
with others.

Re: New Nano-VNA-H4 from SEESII User guide?

YouTube is your friend! Start by looking up "nanoVNA calibration" and move on from there. There are dozens of videos on the nanoVNA. When you've had enough of those, there are also many videos explaining the Smith Chart... Have fun...

next startup .
73's Nizar
By default at startup always load 0 calibration slot
But if select config->expert settings->remember state (and save config, config->save) NanoVNA store several settings in backup registers and use it on startup (include used calibration slot)

Re: Latest calibration not saved at shutdown button

V1.2.27 is an excellent firmware version, so you are good with it. There are newer versions which add some features. You can read the release notes to see if any of these are important for your use cases, but I suspect you would never notice the difference in most of your use.

Re: Latest calibration not saved at shutdown button

Hi Stan

Thank you, i read firmware version 1.2.27 already installed on my new H4 , did I need to upgrade it for newer version ??

Thanks , 73's Nizar .
