Help Support Astronomy At The Beach 2023
All, The Great Lakes Association of Astronomy Clubs is a 501c3 charity that puts on the largest public Astronomy event in the world called Astronomy At The Beach which will be on September 22 and 23 2023. This event draws on average 5000 members of the public to this 2 night free Astronomy outreach event. While the event is free to the public its not free to run. They struggle every year to build the funds to run this event so I'm putting out a request to my followers to consider donating to help support the event. You can donate through our PayPal account to help us keep this event free for the public https://paypal.me/glaac2022 I thank you in advance and hopefully may see some of you at the Astronomy At The Beach 2023

Observe the Perseids Meteor Shower
This event is Weather Dependent. If it's raining or overcast the event won't happen. If the skies are clear, we will be there. Join the Ford Amateur Astronomy Club at Spring Mill Pond in Island Lake State Recreational Area to observe the Perseids Meteor Shower 2023 on Saturday August 12th. Get there around sunset which is at 8:40PM Bring a blanket to lay in the grass to observe the skies and bring mosquito repellent. Best way to observe a meteor shower is to lay on the ground or have a chair that lays backward so you can see as much of the sky as possible. We will have telescopes on hand to observe some beautiful deep sky objects Hope to see you there

FAAC Public observing Island Lake
All, Due to Saturdays weather looking like it will be cloudy in the evening, we have decided to move our public observing event to this Friday 26th starting at 7:30 pm at Spring Mill Pond in Island Lake State Recreational Area. Hope to see you all there. Clear Skies Ford Amateur Astronomy Club

Club observing
Here's the current satellite image. It doesn't look like there's any hope of having suitable skies for observing tonight. While we sometimes try to push the observing back a week, the club's annual banquet is next Saturday so that wont work this month. We'll hope for better skies next month. Clear skies, Tim

Ford Astronomy Club Conference & Swap Meet + 2023 Observing
2
Greetings! As we approach the 2023 observing season, I wanted to let you know that the Ford Astronomy Club will be hosting our annual Astronomy Conference & Swap Meet this Saturday, April 1 — from 9am to 3pm at Henry Ford College in Dearborn. Numerous talks and planetarium shows are offered. It’s also a great place to look for deals on used astronomy equipment. There is a $5 admission charge for this event. The event flyer is attached. Also, here are the list of observing events scheduled for 2023. These observing events are all head at Island Lake State Recreation Area at the Spring Mill Pond picnic area and beach within the park. These events are all FREE and open to the public. If you have a telescope and would appreciate some help learning to set it up and use it, this is your chance (although please send the club a request so we can arrange to meet you at the park a little early — this gets us more time to go over set up before it gets dark.) The caveat is … these events require clear skies (or at clear enough to see stars). In the event that mostly cloudy skies are forecasted, events may be rescheduled or cancelled. Scheduled Observing Events Month Date Sunset Location April 29th 8:30pm Spring Mill Pond May 27th 8:59pm Spring Mill Pond June 24th 9:13pm Spring Mill Pond July 22nd 9:02pm Spring Mill Pond August 26th 8:17pm Spring Mill Pond These events are all also listed on the FordAstronomyClub.com website — on the front page (scroll to the bottom to see the calendar). It also lists the dates for the club’s monthly meetings (which take place at Henry Ford College). You do NOT need to be a club member to attend club meetings — they are open to the public. Clear Skies, Tim Campbell Ford Amateur Astronomy Club

Public Astronomy tonight at Island Lake State ecreational Area
All, Due to weather conditiosn being more favourable tonight, we have moved our public outreach observing to tonight instead of tomorrow. This will be at Spring Mill Pond in Island Lake State Recreational Area. We start at 7PM If you have a telescope and need assistance, get there between 6 and 6:30 as sunset is 7:15 tonight and it is easier for us to help guide you in daylight than in darkness. If you have no telescope but want to see Jupiter, Saturn and many other beautiful night sky astronomy treasures, then come along as this is a public event. We love sharing our telescope views with you. See you tonight Ford Amateur Astronomy Club

Public Observing night
We're looking forward to our next public observing night Saturday August 6th at 8pm. Most of us will be there by 7pm if not earlier. The weather is looking good and improving by the day so lets hope for clear skies These events are always free and open to the public but you do need a state park pass which you can get at the gate of the park if you don't have one already.. If you have a telescope but haven't had much success using it -- bring it along, we're happy to help. But we do suggest showing up at least 1 hr before sunset (it's much easier to go over the assembly and use when we still have light). As always these observing events are at Spring Mill Pond in Island Lake State Recreational Area. Check our website www.fordastronomyclub.com for details. Hope to see you then. FAAC and Henry Ford College Planetarium presents “Touring the James Webb Telescope and Its First Images”
Launched on Christmas Day 2021, the JWST is the successor to the Hubble Space Telescope as NASA’s flagship telescope in its ongoing mission in astrophysics. As the largest optical telescope in terms of scope, the JWST has greatly improved infrared resolution and sensitivity, which allow it to view objects that are too old, too distant, or too faint for the Hubble to perceive. The JWST is expected to enable a broad range of investigations across the fields of astronomy and cosmology, such as observation of the first stars and the formation of galaxies and detailed atmospheric characterization of potentially habitable exoplanets. Its four key goals are: To search for light from the first stars and galaxies that formed in the universe after the Big Bang To study galaxy formation and evolution To understand star formation and planet formation To study planetary systems and the origins of life The first images from the JWST were released on July 12.Register to reserve your seat “The HFC School of STEM is excited to re-open the planetarium to the college community,” said STEM Dean Janice Gilliland. “This event will showcase current photos from the Webb telescope which we have all been hearing about in the news.” Seating is limited. Please register as soon as possible. Register here https://www.hfcc.edu/news/2022/updated-planetarium-presents-touring-james-webb-telescope-and-its-first-images-2
