Feature rich sound decoders
9
Merry Christmas everyone. Looking for advice on sound decoders with lots of features. I received a new BLI SW7 switcher with a Paragon 4 sound decoder installed. Hands down the sound and feature set is so much better than the other 2 drop ins I have on my Kato diesels, a MRC and a Digitrax SDXN167, the newer one. The Digitrax is the most anemic sound wise, I may need to reset it and try a different profile in Decoder Pro. But the BLI honestly opened my eyes(ears) to what sounds can be had with these. Is there a brand similar to the Paragon 4 in terms of feature set and sound quality? It’s my understanding the Paragon 4 only comes in BLI locos and cannot be purchased separately. Would love to get my Kato’s up to a similar standard.

Decoder type
2
I just received some Atlas FA-1 & FB-1 loco's and can't seem to find any info on the correct decoder to use in them. This is the run that was released Dec '23 and Aug '24, they were announced Dec '18. Digitrax says DN166I3 but opening it up it does not look like that is the correct decoder and the light board has wires soldered to it and another small board attached at the back end and on the bottom side. Thanks for your help in advance! Ray

Two More Trainworx Trucks in Time for Christmas
An early morning email from Trainworx on Friday, December 6, announced a new beverage truck. This one is lettered for Coca-Cola, and consists of a Kenworth K100 semi-tractor with a 40-ft corrugated trailer. https://www.train-worx.com/?product=51062-kenworth-k100-with-40-trailer The email also announced the release of the Sandy Smith Peterbilt 379 semi-tractors. The Sandy Smith “Petes” are the last of the six Custom Trucks models to be released that are based on the real trucks that were owned by N scale model railroaders. Photos of the other five Custom Trucks can be found on the NSVA’s Industry News page. However, you will need to scroll all the way down to July 25, 2017 to see the photos. https://nscalevehicles.org/news.php Trainworx is sold out of the trucks, but you may be able to find one at your favorite N scale truck dealership! The email from Pat announcing the trucks also included a “plug” for the recently released 40-ft corrugated trailers. https://www.train-worx.com/?product_cat=n-40-corrugated-trailer While all of the railroad paint schemes in this release were too old for my early 21st Century modeling era, I did purchase a couple of the decorated, but unlettered, trailers because I still see trailers like those in service for businesses that do not need a newer and/or longer trailer. Shown below is the Sandy Smith Peterbilt with the unlettered trailer. Carter

Seeking Angled Caboose Smokejack
6
Hello all! I'm in the process of super-detailing a Conrail N21 bay window caboose to go with a "hot metal" train that I'm modeling. Walthers appears to be the only manufacturer that comes close to an N21 caboose, which I've acquired. However, the smokejack included is unfortunately no where close to correct. I'm looking for any information/manufacturer of a caboose smokejack with two inwardly angled exhaust vents coming off of a vertical & horizontal "T" base. (See attached photo.) If anyone can point me to a super-detail parts manufacturer (or might have a spare that I could purchase from you), I'd greatly appreciate it. (NOTE: Rapido makes a similar smokejack, but that one angles outward.) Thanks for any assistance you can provide! J.D. McKibben (aka IHB Railfan)

Wrong toggle switches?
I appreciate the responses, thanks. Okay, these toggle switches will work and now I understand why. But... I'm still going to have the seller replace them. I'm a stickler for getting what I pay for, not just what is sent to me. I also want them to match the ones I already have. These are a different color. Todd K Stearns

Wrong toggle switches?
Hi folks, I'm not up on my Ohm's Law so I need a little help here please. I ordered some 3 amp, 125 volt DPDT On-On sub-mini toggle switches. The ones they sent me are 1 amp, 250 volts. Are these not the same using Ohm's Law, common sense, etc? If you're wondering, they are for the control panel I'm constructing. These are for Tortoise switch machines. Thanks, Todd K Stearns

Identify milled frame
2
I have acquired a few Aztec milled frames. Most have information with them but two do not. Can you identify this frame? Since there is no rear light, I am presuming that it is from an E or F or PA or FA unit. It is an interesting split frame in that one half has an extension over the second half. Thank you. Atlas RSD-4/5
Hi Group, does anybody have any experience with the newer version of Atlas' RSD-4/5. I have a couple of the earlier versions and only two axles on each truck are driven. As a result the pulling power is terrible. The problem, as I see it, is that the inner axles (closest to the centre of the Loco) are not driven and the middle driven axle tends to lift of the track with six axle trucks. Does the newer version have six wheel drive on each truck? An answer from somebody who owns one of the newer versions would be appreciated. I would like to purchase one but only if it has six axle drive. Thanks..................George.

The D&H and LV at DuPont Junc.
2
Hi! I am looking for information on the run-through D&H/LV trains that ran through DuPont Junc. , PA. I know both roads ran matched sets of Alco C-628s and NE-style vans. As I have collected 3 D&H and 3 LV C-628s and an LV and D&H NE style van for the interchange/run-through I would like to know where they originated, where they terminated, their symbols, and the type of freight. Can someone help? Thanks! Bruce

Anyone have experience with Diamond Turntable ?
I own the Kato (short) Turntable...which worked right out of the box...but it's short. Fits their Japanese C-57 Type 4-6-2. I am considering modifying the Kato Turntable to portray a "1898" version of the San Francisco and San Joaquin Valley Railroad (wood). Also ... Converting the Kato Japanese Domestic Version to a 4-6-0 American. I have 3+ of the Walter's 130' foot version, which so far I have failed to operate at 100%. These were second hand buys from Other People's Layouts. Before I begin again? Anyone have experience with the Diamond Manufactured version ? Thank you in advance. :)) Mark Muddville, California

DuPont Junc., PA

Hi! I am still looking for information on the D&H/LV run-through trains that utilized DuPont Junc. I have discovered a couple of LV train symbols, CX-1 and NE-82, these originated in Allentown and were blocked for the D&H to Oneonta and beyond; and the B&M at Mechanicville in 1975. In 1976 the symbols were AM-1 and NE-84. Symbol MA-2 was also blocked for the D&H and B&M. So what were the D&H symbols, and did these trains originate at Allentown and finally terminate at "Mickeyville" (Mechanicsville)? And what freight did the carry? Bruce

Con-Cor passenger cars
3
Has anyone had problems with the roofs of con-cor passenger cars not inserting flush with the top of the car body? I picked up two super-liner cars made by con-cor that the roof assembly will not insert flat with the top of the car, I can't figure out why they won't go down. If you know of a fix for this, please let me know. C. Maxim 845 area code 12401 Zip code
