New host alive
Howdy, I'm pretty happy with my Cisco to BBS connection now, feel free to try it out at 51010000. TuxedoCat Lounge BBS, running Wildcat! 4.20 for DOS (under Win 7). I only have a single serial connection from the Cisco to the PC right now so only one person at a time can be connected via x.25. The board should be up 24/7, free registration, supports usual ANSI or plain-text, also available via dial-up and telnet access too. Looks like I need to get another version of IOS to support x25 translate and/or wait on getting a new Cisco card in to support more people. have fun, bwann

New Host under testing
2
Greetings all, I mentioned some months ago about an old ISA card (“PC XNET”) that implemented an x.25 PAD and had a DOS API. I have finally found an example of the PC XNET in France and had it shipped here. It appears to work and I am now testing an old DOS BBS Software (“The Major BBS”) that had support for the PC XNET. The host is accessible intermittently at NUA 303001. There may be some double echo problems - please let me know if you come across that. The software is mostly a bone stock install, so not much to see. I’ll work on that in the coming weeks, and once I’m confident of the configuration, I will list the NUA in the google doc. Regards, Phil

DNS update
3
Hi all, I'm brand new to this whole project and X.25, looking forward to learning things. I run a dial-up/telnet BBS (TuxedoCat Lounge) and have managed to set up a Cisco 2821 router, connected it via the aux port, and set up a XOT rotary to get to it the board. I've added an AAA number, can I please get this added to DNS? --bwann

DNS Update, please

Greetings, I've added another delegation to the google doc. Can someone with access to update DNS please do so at their leisure? Thanks! --phil

Demo Thursday 2024-05-30
16
Hi folks, I'm doing a small presentation on TELEBAHN and other retronetwork things this Thursday, and if you have any gear that you could run between 16:00h and 20:00h UTC, that would be great. If you bring something up, please also let me know the NUA. Thanks! Hans

Starter gear to learn about x.25?
2
Does anyone have any recommendations about starter gear to start learning about X.25? Is there a particularly cheap model of Cisco that's available for XOT? What version of IOS is best?

Question about connecting from Cisco/Sparcstation
10
Hello everyone, I'd like to connect my old Sparcstation 1 to Telebahn. I've got a Cisco 1841 with a WIC-2T, can I use a CAB-SS-530MT cable to connect the WIC-2T directly to the serial port on the Sparcstation? And then run Sunlink on the Sparc to connect to Telebahn? Btw my dad worked for Telenet back in the 80's and when I told him about this project, he said "why would anybody want to do that?" 😆

TELEBAHN Weekend
Hi folks, sorry for the late notice: This Saturday is another TELEBAHN Saturday, and I'll be carrying my X.25 gear to the Classic Computing Festival which takes place on the weekend in Dietzenbach. If you have the chance, I'd appreciate it if you could bring up some of your TELEBAHN gear so that visitors have a chance to feel the lag. :) As a reminder, my systems are: 23000100 cisco 23000200 VAX 4000/105A running VMS 5.5 23000300 SPARCstation IPC running SunOS 4.1.4 Cheers, Hans

Getting started
34
Hi, I just came across the TELEBAHN network and don't have much idea of how to start exploring, I've never used X.25 before :) Can any Cisco router do XOT / X.25 routing? Does it require additional hardware? How do I get started / start reading up stuff? :) Apologies if I sound as clueless as I actually am, I just couldn't find as much info online as, say, HECnet or similar networks. Cheers, Alice

MajorBBS + x.25the appropriately compiled MajorBBS kernel wk
2
Years ago, the MajorBBS (and later Worldgroup) supported x.25 with the PC XNet card from OST. Does anyone have any experience with this combination or an interest to see it revived? I’ve not found an example of the ISA card, but what I do have is the headers for the DOS device driver and the MajorBBS kernel with x.25 support. I’ve been working to implement the DOS device driver in a fork of DosBox-staging with the intention to implement a thread to accept XOT connections and translate them to relevant API call results. So far, I do have MajorBBS believing it has found the card, and trying to poll it for packets. Anyways, if this is interesting to anyone and/or if anyone has interest to hack on this too, let me know! —phil

Offline for 3 weeks
Hi, just so you know: I'm switching off my TELEBAHN gear for three weeks while I am traveling abroad. Things will be back online in late August, probably on a schedule. Cheers, Hans

TELEBAHN Saturday
15
Hi Folks, Andrew (ajk) and myself have been thinking that it would be nice to have a recurring time where we bring our systems up and play around with some of the other X.25 nodes. Maybe some of you are interested in joining us? I would propose that we declare the last Saturday of a month to be "TELEBAHN Saturday" - My machines will be running all day, and Andrew said he'll run his around midday US Central time. I've set up my VAX so that you can create yourself an account and then use the SEND command to chat - Connect to 23000200 using xotpad or your node's native PAD and set yourself up for Saturday. Hope to meet some of you and some of your machines on Saturday! Hans

trabant (23000300) out of order
3
Hi folks, my SPARCstation IPX decided to give up the ghost today. I'll see if I can fix it, but for now, I only have the VAX (23000200) and the cisco (23000100) online. Cheers, Hans

Any TELEBAHN nodes online at the moment?
6
Hi, I finally have my VAX and my Sun all wired and hooked up to Telebahn - They should be reachable at 230.002.00 and 230.003.00 respectively. I could connect from the outside using xotpad, but I have not yet been able to reach anything else through xot. Are any of your machines up at this point? Thanks, Hans

dns updated
Added these entries to DNS because they were new in the Google doc: 471 - Mantas Mikulėnas - x25.nullroute.lt 737 - Andrew Kay - xot.trysteropac.net I also added a note to send a message to this list, because I keep looking there and seeing new entries! I wonder how many people have bounced off because activation was not quick ... :\ Cheers! -- æstrid smith (she/her) =<[ c y b e r ]>= antique telephone collectors association member #4870

Added two virtual hosts
4
I'm still waiting for my hardware to arrive, but in the meantime, I have set up my virtual Cisco C7206VXR so that it routes some incoming X.25 calls to emulated systems that I've set up. Using Andrew Kay's xotpad, it is now possible to connect to one of those hosts from your local machine using XOT (but the pad command on Ciscos certainly works as well). $ xotpad -g x25.netmbx.org 23000101 _____ _____ _______ _____ ________ __ ___ ___ | __ \ / ____|__ __/ ____| / / ____| /_ |/ _ \ / _ \ | |__) | (___ | | | (___ / /| |__ | | | | | | | | | _ / \___ \ | | \___ \ / / | __| | | | | | | | | | | \ \ ____) | | | ____) / / | |____ | | |_| | |_| | |_| \_\_____/ |_| |_____/_/ |______| |_|\___(_)___/ Running on an emulated PDP-11/73 Please use PPN 2,1 to log in as guest! RSTS V10.0-L 18-Apr-23 05:40 AM User: I've tried connecting to the same host from Manta's router, but there seems to be some dramatic packet loss somewhere so it does not work well. Something to debug. Cheers, Hans

TELEBAHN still there
14
Hi, laforge kindly referred me to this list as we chatted about my interest in X.25. To get started, I have set up a virtual Cisco router using dynamips and configured it for xot according to the Telebahn notes document. I also added myself there. I tried connecting to the systems that are listed there, but none of them responded to X.25 connection requests. None of the gateway TCP ports (1998) in the list responded either. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but is any of you still interested in this? My longer-term plan is to get my VAX 4000-600 running VMS 5.5-2H4 and VAX P.S.I. connected to the network. Thanks, Hans

dns updated, also hello new people!
2
hi everyone! i added Hans Hübner's record for network 230! i didn't add Mantas Mikulėnas's record for network 147 because it starts with a 1. pick a different number maybe? also sorry about not responding on the list to the earlier discussions, i'm currently moving house and it's taking up almost all my time. my net 752 will be offline for quite a while, months at least. i look forward to having a home lab again someday. for now, i'll be using the shadytel tdm lab (network 801), whenever i manage to have time to setup/unfuck its X.25 situation. :) [it's v6 only at the moment, which is awkward because cisco IOS XOT doesn't do v6 at all, hahaha...] -- æstrid smith (she/her) =<[ c y b e r ]>=
