X-air Standard with rotax 618 engine 5
Hey All. Recently I purchased an x-air Standard with a rotax 618 engine. I just wanted to ask, I’ve heard different stories about their reliability as opposed to the 582 engines that are common on these aircraft. I’ve heard that the 582 is fairly reliable. But I’ve heard differing opinions on the 618 engine. I know mine does not have a cylinder head temperature gauge, but does have a exhaust temperature gauge. The aircraft and engine only have 82 hours on them, however the whole thing is 24 years old. And at this time, I do not have the money or time to have the engine overhauled. So I would like to run on condition if possible. I believe this should be okay. But I just want to know if anybody else owns a similar aircraft and engine combination, if there are any problems I need to watch out for. I don’t use the oil injector, the person I bought the aircraft OFF removed it and told me I should premix the fuel. He also said it was a 50 to one ratio. So 200 mL for every 10 L of fuel. Although he told me to bump it up to 220 mL , for a little bit of extra protection. I did have the engine running once, but didn’t have it running very long. It sounded okay, and ran fine at idle and at reasonable rpm. But didn’t open it up to full power. Some people have told me that they need to be run wide-open. Others have told me that they can run to lean while climbing out and that causes them to burn out. I just would like to know the information about the engine and how to make it last as long as possible. I know of many people who have had 582s running on condition for over 1000 hours with great success. Hopefully the 618 can be just as reliable if you look after it right. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Also, in general, any general things to look out for with the aircraft in general. As this is my first time owning an x-air. I have heard that they are extremely low maintenance. But anything to watch out For or anything that I should do to make the aircraft last as long as possible would be greatly appreciated.

X-air H windshield 10
I'm looking at replacing the windshield on my H. I think a few here may have done so previously and was hoping someone could advise on what material (polycarbonate or acrylic) and thickness has been used. I'd really appreciate any guidance anyone could give. Thanks, Tom

X-Air Standard Weight and Balance 3
The operation and maintenance manual for my X-Air Standard simply says that weight and balance weighing must be done with the aircraft level. It does not state what reference surface is used to establish whether or not the aircraft is level. I am guessing that it is either the main structural tube or the cockpit floor. They appear to be parallel so either one gives the same result. Does anyone know of any official information as to what reference surface is to be used to establish level for these measurements? Thanks. Byron Jones

Hanuaman air box 2
I have a Hanuman/Hawk with a Jabiru 2200 engine on it. Not being its first owner, I ran into a problem, specifically, one of the previous owners had lost the intake airbox and replaced it with a section of scat hose which was then run to a filter. This worked fine for several years, but as the hose has aged, it has become problematic. Doing some looking online, I realized that the factory designed an airbox that fits in the tiny space between the carb and the firewall, that I did not have. I know that the best solution would be to purchase an airbox from the factory, however, I have not been able to get a response from them for several years. As such, I took it upon myself to address the issue and designed and 3d printed an airbox and intake pipe for the plane. I then printed it in a high-grade engineering nylon. So far, it seems pretty good; it's very light too. Obviously, this falls squarely in the territory of experimental aviation, but it occurred to me that I might not be the only person who had this problem or could use this, so I published the files on thingiverse for anyone to use. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6748264 I realize that no one else in the group might need or want the files, but on the off chance someone did, I figured I'd let you guys know in case it helped anyone else.

X-air H and 912uls 19
Has anyone tried putting a 912uls (100hp) rotax on a hanuman? I've got the possibility of acquiring a nice one, but I didn't know if anyone had used the 100hp 912 or only the 80hp.

Voltage regulator on my x air hawk 10
Hello all, Does anyone have an Amazon (preferably Canada) or OEM part number and where to source a new voltage regulator for my 2008 x air hawk Hanuman? Or something on amazon that is 6-wire and very similar to my existing original/OEM unit? Basically, the last few flights, my amperage sky rockets and pops the master 15 amp breaker. But after 15mins or so of flying, once everything gets nice and hot, the amperage goes back down to normal and everything goes back to normal. Some have told me it's likely the voltage regulator. Looking forward to hearing back from anyone who may assist. Thanks Justin

Spare parts from counterfeit suppliers 8
Hello X-Air people, could somebody on the Facebook page also duplicate this post so it gets some exposure. I have had a lot of enquiry recently from various X-Air owners regarding several new parts suppliers, mainly in India working in opposition to the factory. I have finally received full information about this from the X-Air factory and it follows... Can you please give me additional information about what X-Air is doing with the rogue parts supplier/s from India ? The Rogue suppliers are copy cats and have copied some of our old drawings or parts. We are not sure what they supply and what material they use. We have never tested them. There seems to be some confusion about who is supplying what, and on one of the Facebook websites it is saying that this rogue supplier is actually the X-Air factory itself selling as a third party. I would like to get this question answered please. Nobody else other than us make the genuine X-Air Parts. We don't have control over other websites who say so. Saying that the parts are made by X-Air is a scam done by the rogue suppliers. These guys don't spend time for R&D but just copy and use some cheaper raw material to make them. Hence we presume they have a lot of time to do such scams to promote their own material. Such scammers are on the increase these days in all fields, and they are able to mislead customers through involvement in MultiMedia. If the parts are coming from anybody except X-Air or published X-Air dealers then they are not genuine parts, they are counterfeit parts, and we share your same concerns about safety, compatibility and the materials they are using. -- With regards, Michael Coates AU +61 7 5522 0583 PIPISTREL AIRCRAFT DEALER OF THE YEAR 2012 Winner of the EAA August Raspet Award 2012 PIPISTREL AIRCRAFT DEALER OF THE YEAR 2017 mailto:mcoates@... Just saying hello
Greetings All. My name is Griff, I’m 29 years old, and I was born blind, and I am on the autism spectrum. Despite the obvious challenges, I have been flying for around five years. I am very interested in owning an ultralight, me and my dad have owned one before, although unfortunately, while he was flying it, it stalled during takeoff. This happened on the second flight that he took after we bought it. We are interested in either a X-Air Standard or a X-Air Hanuman. I would be interested in getting more information about the aircraft, although from what I’ve heard, I think it’s much better than the UltraLite we used to own. It’s much more forgiving. We used to have a flightstar 2 sc with a HKS 700 T engine, but it’s stall speed was very high. At around 31 kn. As opposed to the 20 to 23 kn of the X-Air Standard. I’ve also heard much less in regards to accident reports with the x-air. I have heard very few accidents with this plane. I’d love to hear from any owners, and I’d love to hear if any are for sale in Australia secondhand. I would also love to hear what the best engine choice is with either x-air model, or what experiences people have had with engines. And what maintenance looks like as well. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards. Griff PS. My dad has a pilots license. But he isn’t as good at technology as I am. And I thought I would ask here. Also, flying and aircraft are very important and therapeutic for me. So it is mostly for me that we got the aircraft, but he got the license.

Value of X-air standard 18
Greetings! I have located a "barn find" X-air standard built in the mid 2010's. It is out of registration and hasn't flown in several years. It is quite dirty but has been kept in a hangar that does not have a main door. It doesn't look too bad but would probably take a fair amount of inspection and lots of maintenance to put in flying condition and get registered. Could some of you chime in with what you think this might be worth and what to look out for? I am a member of EAA, AOPA, and the Recreational Aviation Foundation and served as an AOPA rep for quite a few years. Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide. Rol

interesting photo from an owner in Romania
This photo just came into my mailboxfrom an owner in Romania asking a few questions. I thought I would bring it to the group because it shows a couple of very inventive modifications. If you look at the radiator hose coming out at the bottom of the radiator you will see it goes down into the cabin and then another hose returns from the cabin. They must have set up some sort of internal cabin heating using a third radiator.... it must get very cold over there. There are some impressive looking vents on the doors and there is also a couple of ventilation inlets at the top of the windscreen just above what looks like a GPS unit which are interesting The tires are totally changed to standard, I'm not sure if if it is the same rooms on the rear but on the front looks like they have fitted some sort of scooter tire, a nice mudguard and the rear tires are definitely much larger. Also, if you zoom in really close it looks like the radiator is covered completely with Lexan on the right-hand side only with the left-hand side being open, yes it must be really cold over there..... Finally, the strobe on the tail has some sort of cowling which looks interesting. -- With regards, Michael Coates AU +61 7 5522 0583 PIPISTREL AIRCRAFT DEALER OF THE YEAR 2012 Winner of the EAA August Raspet Award 2012 PIPISTREL AIRCRAFT DEALER OF THE YEAR 2017 mailto:mcoates@... Analog Ammeter needle all of a sudden bounces 6
Hello everyone once again, I changed my facet cube auxiliary electric fuel pump with a bravex auxiliary electric fuel pump. The specifications between the both are merely identical - my current bravex pump has a current draw of 1-2amps with 2-4psi output. After I installed it yesterday and went flying today, the ammeter inside my cockpit registers current draw of about 5-8amps give or take, but as soon as I switch the auxiliary pump on, the needle bounces back and forth like it's going crazy. No beakers pop/open but I'm confused as to why the ammeter needle is bouncing; it's bounces almost like one would simulate the same phenomenon by shaking the Ammeter, if it were to be disconnected, in your hands, sort of thing. For starters, I changed the facet pump thinking it was defective when it stopped working, but afterwards re-plumbing new fuel lines with a check valve and after Installing a new pump, I then realized the wire connector was the culprit of the pump stopping - the puno was fine but rather the wire and circuit of the auxiliary fuel pump had 2 sets of cheap plastic push-on connectors that were 15 years old and landing on rough grass field, probably exacerbated the connection to finally malfunctioning, amongst oxidization and humidity, and quality of connector, etc. Anyway today I went flying with the new bravex fuel pump, soon realizing the brand new bravex fuel pump stop working. After I landed I was surprised to find out if I got a defective new pump. I then chased the wires and circuit of the auxiliary fuel pump one more, to then realized I noticed yet another cheap push on connect. I moved the last cheap connector that was part of this circuit around, at which point the new bravex fuel pump states to work again. I will remove this last problematic connection and splice a straight through connection. Could my ammeter needle be bouncing abruptly because of this (last) poor connection in the auxiliary pump circuit, or could that be a coincidence and the ammeter needle bouncing in the dial be tied towards something else? If i don't turn on the newly installed pump, the needle doesn't bounce, but rather accurately measures total current in the entire electrical circuit of the plane. When I turned on the auxiliary pump with the engine off, the needle also did not bounce around like crazy. When I had the engine running more or less at idle, with the auxiliary pump on, the needle did not bounce around even then. However, once I applied full throttle and got off the ground with the auxiliary pump on, the needle then started bouncing around back and forth like crazy. I will be fixing the last connection issue tomorrow, but thought I'd reach out to you all for any advice. Maybe once I fix the last connection problem within the auxiliary pump circuit, will the ammeter needle stop acting this way? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

A MUST watch video of a Hanuman rebuild owned by Brent Dunphy 2
https://youtu.be/7Fe5gGEaIoQ Who can think of a mallet joke to finish their video ? After a long night at the bar, a man invites his friend to see his new apartment The friend notices a large gong against the wall and asks, "What's with the gong?" – "It's not a gong, it's a talking clock", he replies. He then picks up a mallet and hits the gong. From the other side of the wall they both hear: "Shut the hell up!
