New ham groups added, new groups.io pricing structure on Jan 18, 2021 (long post, intentionally cross-posted)
First, the new pricing structure for NEWLY formed groups on groups.io beginning January 18, 2021. Basic (free) groups formed on or after that date stay free *up to 100 members*. After that, it will need to be upgraded to a premium group. Premium groups ($220/year) are good up to 400 members, after which a per-member fee ($.05 per month or $0.55 per year) is added to the $220 per year premium group fee. That will bring a burden on some new groups, so I created some more ham groups that may grow, or flounder, but I wanted to beat the deadline so those groups will not be charged extra fees, or any fees, for that matter. If they take off and are useful, that will be great. If they flounder, I might just delete the group if members agree, or if there are no co-owners by the time I review whether the group is worth keeping. If you were thinking of creating a group for one of your interests, THIS IS THE TIME TO DO SO before the new pricing structure goes into effect. If you need help with that, email me *privately* and if I'm not overwhelmed with requests, I will try to help. You must be willing to assume group ownership as I will leave the group after creating it and you've been made a group owner. If you need help getting started with the group, I can hang around for a short while and direct you to documentation on how to run a group. As for the new groups I created last evening, I will list their web addresses below. Please contact me *privately* ONLY IF you are interested in joining one of these groups AND ARE UNABLE to use the join button on the web site or find the join process confusing. I would like to avoid what happened when Yahoo closed their groups and I offered to help people if they were unable to join themselves. I was overwhelmed with requests to help, and I'm sure not all of those were from people who had difficulty joining, so please give it a try yourself first. Go to the site and press the join button on the group(s) you are interested in. Follow the simple instructions and you will be approved. All new members will be moderated for a short time so don't expect to post immediately. There's only one moderator right now (me), and I work for a living, sleep at night, and take naps because of my health condition in late afternoons sometimes. I donate some of my time for community work, am a minister, and have to wisely use my time. But I don't want anyone to not join one of these groups because they find it difficult to join. YOU CAN JOIN ANY OF THESE GROUPS BY EMAIL by sending a message to the subscribe address. Take the web address name at the end of the URL and change it by adding +subscribe@groups.io to it. For the FT-757 group (as an example): https://groups.io/g/FT-757GX Send an email to this address: FT-757GX+subscribe@groups.io no body text is required in the message, just the address, but to make your email program happy, you can put the word subscribe in the subject and message fields. These new lists are email reflectors only with no storage (a change that was made almost a year ago by GIO's owner). If I had created them before February 2020, they would have storage. We will work something out for storage if the groups get large enough and have a need for that. I will need moderators for these new groups, and soon after they get on their feet, a co-owner who has some real interest and hopefully experience with these different brands of radios. Contact me off-list if you are interested in volunteering with any of these groups. I will help you out with anything you need to know about how to manage a group as a moderator or co-owner. I will list the NEW groups first, then list the other amateur radio groups I created. Note that most of these are not model-specific and are "general-purpose" groups for a BRAND of radio or a general-purpose group for a type of equipment. I did not create any group for which there already was a general-purpose discussion group for that brand of radio, like Drake and some others. I am not interested in amassing a lot of groups to manage. My purpose is just to see that interes

New ham groups, also new pricing structure for groups
The next message is about some new groups I created to have a general-purpose discussion group for some brands of amateur radio equipment and radios before groups.io's new pricing structure goes into effect Jan 81, 2021. It is a long message, so I just wanted to give you a heads-up. I cross-posted it to all the groups I manage. I will be looking for moderators for the new groups and even some of the established groups, so if you're interested in helping, please email me privately about this. For the rest, please read my next post. It's a long and detailed one. Welcome new members
This group may take a while to "gain traction" with enough members to make a difference when someone posts a question. I created it as a general discussion group for all Yaesu radios and ham equipment. I'll introduce myself as a ham operator licensed back in 7th grade in 1967 or 1968 as a Novice operator. I eventually went for general but didn't pass the code test, so the FCC examiners asked me if I wanted to take the test for Tech, since it was the same written exam back then for general and tech. I went back several months later and had studies for advanced, since if I passed the 13 WPM code test I would at least have general. I passed the code test and the advanced exam and left with an advanced license. The next step was a big hurdle, but I studied and got to almost 25 WPM for the code test (the requirement was 20 WPM), and passed both several months later. I went for extra partly for the challenge and partly because I was tired of remembering where I wasn't allowed to transmit in a band. :-) I did all that except the novice part between 1980-82. I have a 102 ft doublet fed with 450 Ohm windowline and an MFJ auto tuner that I use with my 7300 and my recently repaired and mostly restored (I have a little more work to do on it to get the tuner and some little things working) Yaesu FT-767GX I bought for $50 and have about $30 in parts in it. FS: Yaesu FT890 parts radio
I have for sale a Yaesu FT890 HF radio that is a parts or fix up unit. Case is in decent condition with some scratches on it. It has no optional filters installed, and comes with the radio only, no mic or power cord. Here are the issues with it: 1. Receives on FM mode ok, no receive on other modes-maybe a damaged ceramic SSB filter, as I am guessing that all modes but FM pass through it. That is just a guess, though. I could hear some FT8 stations when in FM mode so it is receiving there. 2. Putting out around 1 to 2 watts max. The meter shows full output, but an external meter only shows a couple of watts. I could hear its carrier on another receiver. 3. SWR meter shows a high SWR even though the antenna has a low SWR, might be related to #4 4. It has the internal antenna tuner installed but it doesn't seem to work. Couldn't find a match after a minute or so. The display is fine, all buttons seem to work fine, VFO dial spins freely. It could have other issues I have not been able to find. It is being sold as-is, not working correctly. I am asking $175 shipped and can take paypal/check/MO. 73 John AF5CC

FS FTDX-9000D (pair) loaded/ w SP-9000 speakers
Hi all, I've decided to sell my beloved pair of 9000s. I wanted to give the Yaesu owners first chance to purchase them. #1 FTDX-9000D - pastel blue LEDs. 10/10 cosmetic and function. Factory box. SP-9000 also 10/10 included. PEP Upgrade. #2 FTDX-9000 (fully upgraded Contest, for all intents and purposes a full D) 10/10 cosmetic and function. PEP Upgrade. Factory box has all the D options checked except internal TFT screen & 160 u-tune unit. I purchased and installed the 160 u-tune unit, works perfectly and all u-tune units are now there. Instead of the TFT, it has the extra meters and function knobs where the TFT normally goes (just like the MP 400W model). Umber (amber) display. SP-9000 also 10/10 included. Since the Contest does not have an internal monitor, I am including a 12" Eyoyo external monitor (driven by the DMU-9000). Included with each will be a Signalink USB data/digital sound card box configured for the 9000 ($100+ value). Also available for sale is an OM-2000A+ set up and cabled for the 9000s (I have an auto-switch network to select whichever rig is on). 160m-6m, EU model with low drive (no attenuator like the USA model has). Serious buyers contact me offlist at ab2e@.... Great chance to pick up a spare 9000, or upgrade to one, those of you who are on the 5000 list. See my QRZ.com page for a picture of the complete station (right half of desk, OM Power amp sitting on black table to right of desk). Willing to drive to meet. Really want to avoid shipping for obvious reasons. Will drive to meet a reasonable distance, or demo and pickup at my QTH in southern NJ (25 min due East of HRO Delaware, 10 min from Gloucester Co ARC Hamfest site in Mullica Hill). Asking $5500 for each package, 73 Darrell AB2E Cell: 856-304-3323 (text your call and name first, too many spam/scam calls these days!) Virus-free.www.avg.com

G-2800 Slow Speed CCW problem
For reasons unknown. my G-2800 only rotates CCW at Slow Speed and has no speed control in that direction. It works normally in the CW direction. It has been up since 2018 (bought new) turning a 4 El Steppir (6-20M) beam w/o a problem. I am hoping the problem is in the controller and can be fixed w/o having to take down the beam to get the rotator out. Does anyone have a chart of the voltages that come from the standard Yaesu G-2800DXA controller? Thanks, Alan K9MBQ

I'm trying to figure out how to adjust the audio level when sending CW and monitoring my sending. Any ideas out there? I don't see anything relating to this in the Manual.

Greetings.
Today I picked up an ft - 690R II Its complete rig but I'll have to buy some new batteries for it and a charger. I'd love to find a working amplifier for that model but nothing shows up on eBay. I was able to put together an AC adapter for it and power it on it seems to be working okay but I haven't done any kind of calibration checks for it. If anyone has any experience with this model I appreciate any and all input. 73!

VFO off frequency
Hi, I have a yaesu ft-747gx that works great, but the frequency readout is off by about 7khz on AM and SSb. I recently replaced the détented tuning knob, which was frequency jumping, with an optical encoder. Radio works great and frequency jumping is gone. I believe the readout was off before I made the mod. Anyway, My question is, what part of a radios alignment procedure will bring the readout back to spec? Im guessing it’s the PLL alignment adjustment, but I’m not sure. There arent any dedicated groups for the ft-747gx/heath sb-1400 that exist, so I figured this is the next best place. Thanks in advance, John

Inexpensive external S-Meter for certain Yaesu radios
I was looking for something else but saw this: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256807074956396.html It's an external S-Meter for certain Yaesu radios for under $10 with free shipping. I can't vouch for the quality but even if the accuracy is off, it might be useful for a relative strength S-Meter. It only lists a few Yaesu radios but I would think any that have the same port that this plugs into might work with it, and if not, you're only out less than $10. You could sell it on your ARRL section swap site or take it with you to a hamfest if you're selling these. I've seen almost an identical S-Meter for these radios selling for many times more than this price, so I have to wonder if the vendor of that one bought these here? I was hoping to find one for Icom radios or my 767 GX but I really don't need one for the 767, just my Icom 705, 7300, or 7100. Please--no China bashing. I'm not of Chinese descent, and don't like what's happening in the SE Asian area, but this isn't a group were we allow political discussions. CHina is capable of making some very high quality items for a moderate price, and some low quality items at a very low price, of course. I'm typing this on a Lenovo ThinkPad laptop, one of three that I have, and it's made as well as when IBM owned the ThinkPad trademark (before they sold the ThinkPad line to Lenovo). Since these are relatively inexpensive, I don't know if these are poorly made or not, but the price may be worth trying one if you have a radio that works with these. Donald KX8K
