FT60 Packet Digirig Soundmodem Winlink 2
I've had intermittent success and failure with Winlink Packet. Seems to be that the Sound settings in Windows is the last, and most delicate factor. I would appreciate a copy of somebody's successful setup achieve Winlink Packet service. I also use AGWPE settings for connecting with a local BBS system on Port 8000, along with Port 8001 for Kiss. APRS is also of interest, but Packet Winlink is the high priority for me. I'm searching for a PrintScreen image of settings for: SoundModem Devices (Sound Card and Server,) SoundModem Modem Packet Winlink Session Settings I'm also curious about TXdelay, and whether this is an issue for the FT60. Similarly, whether TXtail and if any RX Shift is advisable. Mine shows a 30Hz shift. Thank you, Kevin VE7KHI

FT60 battery question 9
It's a loooong story but my FT60 has rarely been used for the past 8-10 years. We are moving and I anticipate a good bit of operation with it after our move. I have three Yaesu FNB-83 batteries purchased when I bought the FT60 as well as the CD-45 (or is it CD-47 ?) charger -- 7.2 vdc, 1400 mAh. I leave the batteries on the charger until the pilot light glows green showing full charge. When the FT-60 is first turned on, the display shows supply voltage. Two of the batteries show 5.4 to 6.0 volts, while one shows 7.2 to 7.8. The 5,4 volt batteries will last for a couple of hours while listening only, no transmitting. I guess I should replace the two showing only 5.4 volts when they come off the charger?

One solution Re: [Yaesu-FT-60] FT60 battery question 4
I agree with the post on low voltage. Replacement needed. There are alternatives if you are a hobbyist and want to "play" with the hardware. I have put MY solution on Thingiverse. My solution used off the shelf Li batteries in a custom made 3D printed case. Some relatively inexpensive circuit and battery holders are required. This solution gives a ton of storage, costs just a bit less than the standard battery but the batteries can be replaced in a moment and recharged out of the radio while new rechargeables are inserted. The biggest deficit is that the thickness of the radio increases about .25" I think my battery pack has 4 times the amp hours but it has been awhile since I did the calcs and could simply be forgetting. One other thing, when the batteries go bad, it is easy and pretty inexpensive to replace. Having said that, there are OTHER people who have also come up with a path they prefer. There is some pretty good thinking going on out there. Take a look IF you want to "play". If alternative creating is not what you are interested in, it is much easier to simply purchase a replacement battery. FT-60 and Memory Bank Programming 23
Hello Everyone, My FT-60 is proving to be a challenge to program the BANKS, #1 thru #10. The problem? I don't know how to do it! I don't find the manual [pages 27-29] any help, either. In "memory", I have both ham radio repeaters and VHF fire frequencies. I want to move, or "cut and paste" those fire frequencies to BAND 1, leaving the ham repeater freq's where they are. I do have the R.T. Systems programming software, but support for the radio is discontinued, so they can't help me. I've ticked the boxes for "BANK 1" in the software, but after programming the radio, the fire freq's do NOT show up in "BANK 1". Can anyone here help me to accomplish my goal? Many thanks for taking the time to respond! 73 de Alain

Another Headset Issue 3
I have several headsets/speaker mics to use with my FT-60Rs. The audio on all of them seems fine. My problem is with the plug. It seems the slightest jostling and the plug comes out just a little resulting in a dead key with no audio. Of course I cannot hear this in the earpiece, so I don't know it is happening until someone near me yells out "Open Mic". Has anybody found a good way to hold the plug in? I have several devices that use TRRS jacks and have no problem holding the plug, but both my FT-60Rs seem to have the issue. Michael WA7SKG

life expectancy of HT in general 7
I've done some searching in this forum (and a few other places) and come up empty, so I thought I'd ask. Does this HT have general life expectancy? The reason I'm suspicious of my 20+ year old unit is due to battery life across a number of batteries, some of them new or <1 year old. I've tried both HRO and cheaper Amazon batteries, and they don't hold a charge well. My charging cradle shows a steady green light on all of them so I don't think it's the battery or the cradle. I haven't been on the air much due to work but when I am, battery life caves, even if I'm not transmitting. My Tx is on Low and the Power Saver feature is enabled. And when power is low, obviously Tx is negatively affected. I'd appreciate any guidance on this matter, including other investigations I might conduct to determine the problem. Thanks! 73s, Jayne

FT60 Clone Cable CT27
Is there anything special about the clone cable for this radio? I have a 4 pole to 4 pole lead but the Tx radio shows "error" the Rx sits in "Rx" mode. All I need to do is clone one FT60 to another, because manually entering is such a pain in time management!!! They may be cheap to buy but... any ideas? CHIRP was not one of my desires to follow as this is a "one off" use. Cheers, Mark.

Battery 14
After a full charge, every time I key the PTT it seems to drain the battery very quickly and sometimes restarting the radio. Is there a setting that I inadvertently set that would suck that much power? Or is the battery damaged? Or is there some internal damage in the radio itself?

No Download With CHIRP 3
I have two FT-60R handhelds. I cannot get them to download to CHIRP. I hold the Moni and turn it on, select F8 Clone, hit F/W and it is in clone mode. When I hit PTT, it never goes to ---TX---. Doesn't matter whether cable is attached or not, or whether CHIRP has been started or not. Every now and then, sometimes holding the PTT for just a second, sometimes holding it for 5-10 seconds, it will momentarily go into ---TX---, but never does the download. CHIRP eventually says "Failure to communicate with radio: Radio not responding." I did this a year or so ago and right after pushing the PTT for a second, it went right into ---TX---. Now it doesn't. Pushing the Moni button it goes right into ---RX---, but I have no file to upload. I know I had files for this radio previously, but I seem to have lost them. My programming cable uses an FTDI chip. It is an after market MIRKIT cable. I've not seen any complaints about it. Any ideas what I may be doing wrong? Michael WA7SKG

Is there a good explanation on how to use Yaesu Memory banks? 19
I am a new ham with an FT-60 R/E. I have a list of frequencies by city that are used in emergencies and for net control. It looks like the memory banks might be what I am looking for. Memory Bank 1 for Sunnyvale,CA frequency list Memory Bank 2 for Mountain View, CA frequency list Memory Bank 3 for Los Gatos, CA frequency list etc. This way I could have a long list of frequencies divided by city. I have looked at the manual and am confused. The current single list of frequencies I have on my Yaesu was added using Chirp. Does anyone know of a source for a good explanation of how the Yaesu Memory bank work? Is it possible to use Chirp to load the frequencies into the various memory banks? Thanks for anyone that can point me in the right direction. Joy

FT-60 transmitting off frequency on 70cm 8
Hello, I have noticed that my FT-60 transmit audio is a bit distorted/clipping when transmitting on 70cm. I have tested this with recording the receive audio on my Anytone 878, UV5R and UBCD436 scanner. All of them hear this distorted audio. I set my SDR up to 431.150mhz and when I transmit with the FT-60, it's extending beyond the edges of the 12.5khz bandwidth. The other radios are much closer to the set frequency and don't have this issue. Is there a way to calibrate the FT-60 transmit frequency at all? Can I do it for 70cm only or is there a menu setting of some sort which helps with this? Transmitting on 2m doesn't have this issue as it's much closer to the selected frequency. Here is my Anytone transmit. It's slightly off but the audio is perfectly fine and readable with no distortion/clipping: And my FT-60 transmit. It's extending beyond the bandwidth and sounds like it's clipping on louder sounds in normal conversation: I believe this misalignment or calibration issue is what's causing the clipping/distorted sound. I'd really appreciate anyone's help on this! Thanks. Ryan - VK3DCR
