Happy Holidays! 4
Hope everyone has had a good 2021 so far and is staying safe in light of the dramatically increasing Covid numbers in DC. Just a quick note to remind neighbors that we have the good fortune of being taken care of by a wonderful team of trash and recycling folks and Wade is the best damn postperson a neighborhood could ever ask for. If you have the opportunity to provide them an end of the year gift, I have zero doubts they'd greatly appreciate it. I'm pretty sure we all recognize this has been quite a trying time, especially for teams on the front line. Even if you or your family choose not to provide a gift, please take the opportunity to thank them in person or pass kind words on to them. Any and everything makes a difference! Safe travels to all who will be away for the next few days and look forward to seeing everyone out in the alley and on the stoops once it warms up again! Nick & Lauren 242 10th Street, SE

We wanted to send out an email during our break week between the fall and winter seasons to drum up more interest in our Winter CSA! Firstly, thank you to everyone who has signed up so far! We have 3 high tunnels full of gorgeous greens and herbs, we can't wait to start sharing them with you next week. The Winter CSA is crucial to the sustainability of our workforce. Farming during the winter is not a sure thing on many farms, and farmworkers are often left without a few months pay between the end of fall and beginning of spring. In order to keep being able to pay our wonderful team, we have the Winter CSA! And in order to fully make this work, we need at least 100 members! Supporting small businesses is crucial to the success of communities everywhere, and small farms aren't exempt from that mission! Gift your friend, neighbor, parents, or yourself a share of local vegetables this winter! Imagine fresh salads and hearty greens all winter long. Crunchy carrots and crisp radishes. Hearty potatoes and squashes. All this can be yours by joining our Winter CSA, starting next week! We take a two week break over the weeks of Christmas and New Years since we know lots of people travel and we want to make this CSA as simple as possible to enjoy! We have only 25 shares left to go to reach 100! If you haven't yet snagged your share, sign up today! Share the word with your neighbors and friends and encourage them to shop local when it comes to their food. As during the main season, we can do payment by installments, so no need to worry about paying the full amount up front. Thank you for your support and have a warm and bountiful holiday season. McDonald’s Order
Hi Everyone, We just noticed a McDonald’s order (via GrubHub) on our stoop. It was delivered at 8:49. If it’s yours, first - apologies for only seeing it now. Second - please feel free to drop by and pick it up (225 11th street SE). It unfortunately doesn’t have a name or address on it - otherwise I’d bring it over. We had hoped to be open by now, but we've had continued challenges with permits and getting our sprinklers hooked up. We expect our DDOT public space permit to be approved this coming week, which will trigger the Department of Buildings to issue our full exterior permit. We're ordering materials and are excited about making the facade and backyard porch and patio a reality. We're in meetings with DC Water about the water hook-up for our sprinklers. Department of Buildings has required some additional steps for our interior permit as well. I'll provide an update once we hear back from them on the latest submissions. The apartment looks great and is at the punch-list phase. We can't rent it until our sprinkler water connection is completed, but the sprinkler system itself has been installed and inspected. So we're likely looking at March of 2025 to celebrate our re-opening. Peyton Sherwood, who will be leasing the space and running Mott's, has been busy building shelving and gathering the refrigerators, ice maker, and other equipment he'll need to get things open once the build-out is complete. <2024-ThanksgivingFoodDrive-Flyer.jpeg> Martha Stracener Dantzic Quicksilver Productions Foundation martha@... Handyman recommendation
Hi all, I wanted to recommend Michael Morse if you have any handyman needs coming up. He was absolutely fantastic. We combined a few minor repair and problem diagnosis projects with building shelving into one of our closets and he knocked it all out in about a day and a half for a reasonable price. He also flagged an exterior issue he noticed that we weren't aware of and recommended a couple contractors to address it. We are going to have him repaint our front porch and steps in the spring as well. Michael works on a half day/whole day fee model plus materials, so if you have a few random needs that have piled up over time, it is the perfect way to knock all of that out at once. He is also a neighbor who lives a few blocks over from us. Happy to answer any questions. He can be reached at morse.michael.r@... for a free estimate. Lauren & Nick 242

HAlleyWeenCleanUpandPotluck Sun Oct 27th 4ish 2
Neighbors and Friends - Looking forward to seeing lots of you on Sunday afternoon/evening for a potluck. We’ve got several new neighbors so come out to say hello and our newly spruced up River Rock Court! Feel free to do some cleaning on the alley at your own pace on Saturday and Sunday as your schedule allows. The north end is oddly in fairly good shape after they laid in the new paved squares but there’s always something to clean up there, that’s for sure! Loosely tossing out a schedule here: 4:00pm ish Happy Hour 5:00pm Dinner with an around the block parade at some point when we have Maximum kids and anyone in costume! Sunset at 6:15pm so darkness comes quickly — I’ll put out tables by our garages, feel free to put some out too if you have some. Food: I’ve heard folks are bringing sandwiches, wraps cupcakes baked goods…. we’ll bring our traditional fried chicken from H Street w mac n cheese. BYOB to share and we’ll have some ice and cooling stations hopefully happening (Greg R can you help? ) Parents with kids - can you cover kid drinks ? We may need an ice run on Sunday if anyone is heading to Safeway ( can’t wait for Mott’s to open in December, how about you?) If anyone has paper plates etc on hand - please LMK otherwise I’ll get some. (I’ve finally made it through our rotating stash!). Bring your own drinking vessel if you can. I’ve got plenty of paper napkins Text me with ideas, questions, thoughts or reply to this thread. Happy Fall! Cheers to River Rock Court! Martha 213 11th St SE 202-669-3818

Alley Halloween Clean up and Potluck Anyone? Sun Oct 27th? 4
Hi Friends and Neighbors - Now that the work on the alley is mostly done (sorry 10th St friends) - wondering if folks are up for an alley clean up over the weekend of Oct 26/27th with a potluck on Sunday late afternoon/evening Oct 27th? I know a couple folks are out of town. If folks are game to do this, I’m happy to coordinate. Let me know if you/your family is game! Happy Fall! Window Cleaning Recommendation
Morning Neighbors! Know everyone has been thrilled with all of the pipe replacement, construction and general messiness that's been going on the past few months (years?) on 10th & 11th Streets. Fingers crossed it all wraps up soon..... In the meantime, we recently had our windows professionally cleaned inside and out by Mr. Horace Blizzard who has been doing this work on Capitol Hill for decades. We found him and his small team thorough, qualified and efficient. On top of it all, we didn't realize how dirty things had gotten until they made our windows look brand spanking new after a little more than an hour of work! Anyway, we couldn't recommend him highly enough. Mr. Blizzard can be reached at (571) 236-0060. Best wishes! Nick & Lauren 242 10th Street, SE
