Wings at War 9
A popular rule set. There are 7 different sets of rules for the different periods. Does this require buying them all or starting with one period and expanding out? Any suggestions on how to approach this?

France 1940
Following on from Poland (in 2022) does anyone have anything set in this campaign? I would also be interested in anything set in the even more unusual Norwegian Campaign.

Anyone Running Campaign Games, and/or Linked Air Battles? 10
I'm thinking about giving this a try, and there are a number of genres and theaters I'm interested in, so my "priorities" are a bit scattered. I suppose I probably should leverage some of my existing, already painted minis in 1/600th, and gasp, 1/300th scales too - Falklands, Korean War, some Vietnam, and Cold War Europe are available now, in addition to WWII also. Of course, I'll want to paint up some new aircraft as well, for periods and wars/conflicts I don't already have minis available for yet. Thinking about giving the olde AirWar:C21 Campaigns a spin, since those sounded like so much fun when they were being reported on back on Yahoo Groups, a decade or more ago. Anyone have a copy of the Desert Eagles campaign info for that, for the Iran/Iraq War, which kicked off in earnest about 40 years or so ago? If so, I could use a copy of those files again, if you wouldn't mind sharing. I found a great deal on a "hexmat" fabric at Walmart - desert yellow chicken wire pattern, with 7/8" hexes. Other periods of interest include the following: Ultra-Modern Period: USAF/USN vs. China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran; Japan and/or Taiwan vs. China and perhaps an allied Russia; Saudis and allies vs. Iran; Israel vs. Iran; NATO vs. Russia; Greece vs. Turkey; Ukraine vs. Russia, though there doesn't seem to be any/many air-to-air battles occurring, and Baltic States air defense patrols by NATO; etc., etc. Falklands Conflict Greece vs. Turkey India vs. Pakistan Iran vs. Iraq Korean War NATO vs. Warsaw Pact Taiwan vs. China - back in the day USN vs. Iran USN vs. Libya Vietnam WWII Europe - Battle of Britain - 1940 WWII Europe - 1943 - 1945 fighter vs. fighter and the daylight bombing campaign WWII Europe 1940 - 1945 night bombing campaign WWII Europe - Coastal Forces patrols and attacks on German shipping and U-Boats WWII Pacific I suppose I need to prioritize some of the above, but all of them seem interesting. Some perhaps more than others. One of the ones that stands out to me, and that would make for an interesting solo campaign would be Iron Hand sorties during Vietnam vs. the SA-2 sites there. I need to make some more SA-2 site berms, and get them painted up for that, but at least the SAMS and radars are now available, and most of the jets. Can the attackers survive multiple missions, while gaining experience and increased abilities to take them out over time? I would love to see the two-seater F-105Gs produced though, in order to do this properly. Are any of you running games now for the above, and have you come up with any special house rules for any of them to add more flavor to them?

Making stands 2
These stands are made from cheap Lego copies from Webrick.com and some little micro magnets glued onto some Pico minis. Think these are gonna work great!

Early Jets
I'm printing early jets and last of the prop military A/C (1945-1953) jets for Hot Wars rules and think that I'd like to use them in a set of Tumbling Dice's type WaW rules (that I create from scratchd). Does anyone have an idea or understanding of how the aircraft stats might be created for this period? I have "Mig Ally" and "Suez" sets of rules, but want to use a number of aircraft that never were built or only as test or prototypes Examples would be like the French Sud Est Grognard, Soviet Yak-23, US Bearcat, UK Hornet, German Ta-152 and Do-335, etc.). What information do I need to translate into game terms? Any formulas? Any help would be appreciated.

Newb here 5
Howdy all, I’m new. Have a fair number of 1/600 aircraft and looking to see what y’all suggest as far as a good combination of tactical usefulness but keeping a game simple. I have a 7 year old that I’d like to start teaching some gameplay. Ryan

Another new member! 19
Hello all. I have just joined the group after developing a sudden and unexpected interested in 1/600 air wargaming. This was probably caused by a combination of a recent visit to the Yorkshire Air Museum and seeing the Tumbling Dice offerings at the recent Partizan show in Newark. I am toying with getting one of the Wings At War rule/models sets - probably either the Suez or Korea ones as I do like the early jet era. I am after a simple set that plays quickly (ideally 60 - 90 mins) and these seem to fit the bill. I have downloaded the free Desert Spitfires game and will try them out with some simple card counters. Cheers Simon

flight stand heights 10
Hello all, building some flight stands for Wings of War, not sure how high to go. 15cm seems a bit high for a small 25 - 30mm square base. Anyone having problems with the high stands falling over? Thanks Lloyd

Decals
At the risk of being cheeky, do any UK based group members have any surplus Israeli or Arab 1/600 decals that they want to sell on? Cheers Simon

New to 1/600 7
Greetings all. By way of introduction, I am 70yrs old and I have been gaming with miniatures since 1991. I was a boardgamer prior to that but, when my sons got a hold of miniatures, my boardgaming days were numbered. :-).. Vince, I once played in a WWI air game you put on at Historicon using modified Red Sun Blue Sky rules. We had some discussions on modifying the rules and you sent out a series of updates, all of which I retain and have incorporated into my games. I recently joined this group as I am looking to venture into the world of 1/600 WWII gaming. I have a significant inventory of 1/300 WWII aircraft but, to flesh out my heavy bomber inventory has become cost prohibitive. Roughly $8 dollars a model... Ughhhh. I have gone through all of the messages and I have some questions about the minis produced by TD and OO. First, are the models from these two manufacturers compatible? Is one a clear winner as to quality of the sculpt? Does the quality vary by manufacturer based upon the type of aircraft? Single engine, twin engine, medium bomber or heavy bomber? For Single engine aircraft; Do TD or OO require any assembly? I understand that the TD Stukas require the landing gear to be affixed but, are there others? Medium Bombers: Same question. Any assembly required? Heavy Bombers. I seem to have read the OO require affixing wings to fuselages... I may have misread the message but, wanted to know if this is true for one or both manufacturers. Thanks in advance for any advice Bob T.

Instant Thunder
While flitting through the files section, I came across these rules. Although abstract and simple, I suspect there is more to this game than first meets the eye! Does anyone who has played it gave any thoughts or comments? Cheers, Simon

Flight Stands 5
I'm still looking for a UK supplier of very basic flights stands. Round base, up to 6 cms in height. Can anyone suggest somewhere I could look?

More Photos of Mission 250 including the “Big Boom”! 2
The beginning of the “Big Boom”. This was taken from across the table. Note there are a couple of damaged B-17 flying in the middle box, the top box is undamaged. After the “Big Boom”, now there is a single survivor in the middle box damaged and on fire, a bomber in the upper box is on fire, and a 110 is on fire. I think the other 110 was already damaged in a previous turn. If I recall correctly the lead bomber (silver) of the high group took a rudder hit, but passed the Out of Control check. More formation photos

Rollin’ with the “Hell’s Angels” at Historicon 3
Mission 250 to Berlin was not good for the Hell's Angels. An entire squadron of the 303rd BG was destroyed in the center box of the lead group. Having a B-17 blow up in the middle of the Formation didn't help. Damaging or destroying 4 B-17s. Took a ME-110 with but the dilatory P-51s failed to close on the ME-110s and ME-410s. Allowing them to do their dirty work. On the way back it was much closer, the Germans won by a single bomber. The lead element was decimated from 16 to 6 bombers. Won a Legion of Merit for the game. Sadly I forgot to take a picture of the bomb explosion. 😿
