North Carolina dog's search for love after owners killed in Helene ends in joy amidst life's darkest hours
North Carolina dog's search for love after owners killed in Helene ends in joy amidst life's darkest hours A beagle named Moose survived the devastation of Hurricane Helene in North Carolina after his owners died. Despite facing physical and emotional trauma, he found love and healing with a foster family, inspiring others with his resilience and the power of second chances. https://www.foxweather.com/lifestyle/moose-beagle-lake-lure-hurricane-helene-rescue-foster?dicbo=v2-lBGnntF By Chris Oberholtz LAKE LURE, N.C. – A dog can teach us many life lessons. For Moose, it's that joy can bloom even in the darkest hours. The North Carolina beagle, once lost and grieving after Hurricane Helene, continues to inspire his new family and those who cared for him following a natural disaster that no one could ever imagine. A beagle named Moose survived the devastation of Hurricane Helene in North Carolina, after his owners died. (Tara Lynn) The ferocious storm ripped through his world nestled in Lake Lure's foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains nearly two months ago, leaving destruction and despair in its wake. His family – his safe haven – was killed after his home was swallowed by Helene's rage. NORTH CAROLINA WOMAN USES INSTAGRAM TO REUNITE LOST PHOTOS SWEPT AWAY IN HELENE'S FLOODS WITH THEIR OWNERS The remnants of a home are seen in Lake Lure, North Carolina, October 2, 2024, after the passage of Hurricane Helene. (ALLISON JOYCE/AFP / Getty Images) Glimmer of hope arrives In the days following the nightmare, neighbors took turns caring for Moose, even as they faced their own struggles of being without water and power. During that time, Moose was viciously attacked by a pack of wild dogs. His condition was dire, requiring immediate medical attention. It was thanks to one of those caring souls who called Triangle Beagle Rescue in Raleigh to get the care he desperately needed. The team of volunteers would soon offer a glimmer of hope for Moose, agreeing to take him in as soon as a foster home became available. NORTH CAROLINA MAN OFFERS THANKSGIVING FEAST OF HOPE TO 5,000 HELENE SURVIVORS Moose lost his home and family during Hurricane Helene. (Tara Lynn) The devastation in western North Carolina weighed heavily on Tara Lynn's heart. She yearned to help but struggled to find the right way. She and her husband toyed with the idea of fostering another dog from TriBeagles, but nothing seemed quite the right fit. Then, Moose arrived, and it felt like destiny. "I just felt like God said, 'Okay, this is your role, and step up and love on my little dog," Lynn told FOX Weather. BODY OF FINAL MISSING IMPACT PLASTICS EMPLOYEE FOUND MORE THAN A MONTH AFTER HELENE ‘Trust the journey’ After being rescued from the mountains and undergoing surgery, Moose was a shell of his former self. But his eyes, filled with hope, were fixed on Lynn, his new savior. With her love and care, he would begin to heal. HELENE DAMAGES OVER 800,000 ACRES OF NORTH CAROLINA FORESTS Moose was a shadow of his former self after his rescue and surgery. (Tara Lynn) Moose was a fighter, a survivor, and his spirit, though wounded, remained unbroken. As he recovered, his playful side emerged, bringing joy to those around him. As Lynn documented in her blog on Moose's recovery, she noticed his tail beginning to wag again, and his spirit was full of playful energy. In it, she reminded others that happiness can be a choice, even when life seems overwhelming. "Whether we’re dealing with trauma or loss, healing is a slow process that requires patience, but we should trust the journey and give ourselves grace," she adds. Beloved 'Rainbow Bridge' honoring lost pets in North Carolina washed away by Helene
Beloved 'Rainbow Bridge' honoring lost pets in North Carolina washed away by Helene https://www.foxweather.com/extreme-weather/rainbow-bridge-lake-lure-flowering-north-carolina-helene The area was slammed by about 22.5 inches of rain from Helene during Sept. 24-28. This caused the Broad River to surge and rise more than 15 feet, drowning its banks in silt and floodwater. ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Rainbow Bridge of Lake Lure, a memorial dedicated to dogs and other pets that have passed away, is no more, as it was washed away during Hurricane Helene’s march across western North Carolina last month. Located southeast of Asheville, the Rainbow Bridge was part of the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge, a series of gardens and other installments placed on and around a pedestrian bridge that crossed the Broad River and connected the cities of Lake Lure and Chimney Rock. Image 1 of 3 ----> see link for more photos The Flowering Bridge arch before Helene. (Reprinted with permission from the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge) https://www.foxweather.com/extreme-weather/rainbow-bridge-lake-lure-flowering-north-carolina-helene The area was slammed by about 22.5 inches of rain from Helene during Sept. 24-28, according to the FOX Forecast Center. This caused the Broad River to surge and rise more than 15 feet, drowning its banks in silt and floodwater. "We lost everything," said Linda Randeau, board member and volunteer with the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge. "We lost the Flowering Bridge, and we lost the Rainbow Bridge from Hurricane Helene. It's quite devastating, actually." next ‘In person it’s so much worse' The Rainbow Bridge, once painted in the colors of the rainbow and adorned in colorful collars and tags of animals who were so loved by their humans, is now all but disappeared and replaced by brown muck and debris. Reandeau herself had placed a collar on the bridge in memory of her long-haired dachshund, Georgia, who passed away at the age of 13. Georgia’s collar, along with those of other pets that were hung on the Rainbow Bridge, now lost to Helene. "She was a real sweetie. So, I don't have her tag anymore because I put it on that bridge. But, you know, it was just a tag. I still have pictures of her and her other puppy. We had actually two tags down there, our other doggie," Reandeau said. "It's heartbreaking." Reandeau, placing a dog collar on the Rainbow Bridge for a visitor who had recently lost their dog. (Reprinted with permission from the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge / FOX Weather) Apart from the Rainbow Bridge, the greater Lake Lure Flowering Bridge and all of its gardens were also completely devastated. Built in 2013, the Flowering Bridge was a vehicular bridge that was transformed into a botanical garden run by volunteers, Reandeau said. The green space also extended beyond the bridge, with 30 gardens and more than 2200 flowers, trees and other plants growing along the banks of the Broad River. One of those gardens was the River’s Edge Dog Garden, which was taken care of by Reandeau. It had stepping stones in the shape of paw prints, plus a red fire hydrant and bench for pups and their humans. The River's Edge Dog Garden before Helene. The Broad River can be seen in the background. (Reprinted with permission from the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge / FOX Weather) Those lush gardens were flushed downstream during Helene, replacing the vibrant greens and berry colors of the gardens with mud from the flood. The future of Lake Lure Flowering Bridge, along with all its gardens and its beloved Rainbow Bridge, is uncertain, especially as the pedestrian bridge that crossed the Broad River is no longer structurally sound, Reandeau said. She noted that the board of directors for the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge will have to decide what the future holds, as the greater Lake Lure community and many other communities in western North Carolina are still reeling from the impacts of Helene. Lost cat makes 900-mile journey back home to California from Yellowstone
Pets Lost cat makes 900-mile journey back home to California from Yellowstone Rayne Beau's owners believe he made the trek mostly by himself By Christine Rousselle Fox News Published September 21, 2024 https://www.foxnews.com/travel/lost-cat-makes-900-mile-journey-back-home-california-from-yellowstone Why cats make great companion pets, according to the ASPCA ASPCA Senior Behavior Manager Adi Hovav joins 'Fox & Friends Weekend' to explain the benefits of adopting kittens. A husband and wife in California who thought their cat was gone for good got the shock of a lifetime last month when he showed up more than 900 miles away from where he was lost. Benny and Susanne Anguiano and their two cats, arrived at Yellowstone National Park on June 4. Although the couple had always traveled with their pets, something spooked their Siamese cat, Rayne Beau, and he ran into the forest. The couple looked for him for four days, said the Associated Press, and tried to tempt him to return with his favorite treats and toys. MISSING DOG IN VIRGINIA CAPTURED AFTER 6 MONTHS ON THE RUN: 'ALMOST LOST HOPE' Rayne Beau was nowhere to be found. Eventually, on June 8, the Anguianos began their return trip to their home in Salinas, California, south of San Francisco. This photograph provided by Susanne Anguiano shows her cat Rayne Beau looking out the window of a camper in July 2023. Rayne Beau ran away from the camper in June 2024. He was missing for two months before being found 900 miles away. (Susanne Anguiano via AP) Susanne told the AP she was "crushed," but remained hopeful that, against all odds, her cat would be found safe. "We were entering the Nevada desert and all of a sudden I see a double rainbow. And I took a picture of it and I thought, that’s a sign. That’s a sign for our rainbow that he’s going to be OK," she said. In August, the Anguianos received word that Rayne Beau had been found – skinny, and with paws that were roughed up – but otherwise OK. Rayne Beau was spotted in Roseville, California, almost 900 miles from where he ran off in Yellowstone and about 200 miles away from Salinas, said the Associated Press. Rayne Beau, above, was spotted in Roseville, California, two months after he ran away from his owners in Yellowstone National Park. He was reunited with his family after his microchip was scanned. (Alexandra Betts via AP) A woman noticed the Siamese on the streets, and provided him with food and water before she successfully trapped him on August 3. She then brought him to the local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, where his microchip was scanned. NEW STUDY SHOWS THE EFFECT OWNING PETS HAS ON OWNERS' BRAINS Rayne Beau lost six pounds during his two-month journey back to California, said the Associated Press. The Anguianos believe that Rayne Beau, somehow, was able to make the journey back to California by himself. "His paws were really beat up." "I believe truly that he made that trek mostly on his own. His paws were really beat up. Lost 40% of his body weight, had really low protein levels because of inadequate nutrition. So he was not cared for," Susanne Anguiano told the Associated Press. The couple reached out to the media hoping to see if anyone had perhaps spotted their cat on his journey. For now, the Anguianos have decided to put a pause on traveling with their cats. The Anguianos have since outfitted their cats (Rayne Beau is in front) with AirTags and GPS trackers. (Susanne Anguiano via AP) "It was a very ugly feeling after we lost him," Benny Anguiano told the AP. "We’ll have to practice camping at home and camp in the driveway to get him used to it." And they have taken extra steps to ensure their cats are safe and sound. While the cats were already microchipped, they have since been fitted with AirTags – and a GPS global tracker for Rayne Beau, said the couple. The Associated Press contributed reporting. Christine Rousselle is a lifestyle reporter with Fox News Digital.

The Land that Made Me, Me!!
Shameless swipe from Facebook... I think I saw this ages ago... oldie but goodie! -- Ginny I have no idea who put this together, but it is wonderful, especially if you’re North of 70! The Land that Made Me, Me!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J55S38xwxnQ Long ago and far away, in a land that time forgot, Before the days of Dylan , or the dawn of Camelot. There lived a race of innocents, and they were you and me. For Ike was in the White House in that land where we were born, Where navels were for oranges, and Peyton Place was porn. We longed for love and romance, and waited for our Prince, Eddie Fisher married Liz, and no one's seen him since. We danced to 'Little Darlin,' and sang to 'Stagger Lee' And cried for Buddy Holly in the Land That Made Me, Me. Only girls wore earrings then, and 3 was one too many, And only boys wore flat-top cuts, except for Jean McKinney. And only in our wildest dreams did we expect to see A boy named George with Lipstick, in the Land That Made Me, Me. We fell for Frankie Avalon, Annette was oh, so nice, And when they made a movie, they never made it twice.. We didn't have a Star Trek Five, or Psycho Two and Three, Or Rocky-Rambo Twenty in the Land That Made Me, Me. Miss Kitty had a heart of gold, and Chester had a limp, And Reagan was a Democrat whose co-star was a chimp. We had a Mr. Wizard, but not a Mr. T, And Oprah couldn't talk yet, in the Land That Made Me, Me. We had our share of heroes, we never thought they'd go, At least not Bobby Darin, or Marilyn Monroe. For youth was still eternal, and life was yet to be, And Elvis was forever in the Land That Made Me, Me. We'd never seen the rock band that was Grateful to be Dead, And Airplanes weren't named Jefferson , and Zeppelins were not Led. And Beatles lived in gardens then, and Monkees lived in trees, Madonna was Mary in the Land That Made Me, Me. We'd never heard of microwaves, or telephones in cars, And babies might be bottle-fed, but they were not grown in jars. And pumping iron got wrinkles out, and 'gay' meant fancy-free, And dorms were never co-Ed in the Land That Made Me, Me. We hadn't seen enough of jets to talk about the lag, And microchips were what was left at the bottom of the bag. And hardware was a box of nails, and bytes came from a flea, And rocket ships were fiction in the Land That Made Me, Me. T-Birds came with portholes, and side shows came with freaks, And bathing suits came big enough to cover both your cheeks. And Coke came just in bottles, and skirts below the knee, And Castro came to power near the Land That Made Me, Me. We had no Crest with Fluoride, we had no Hill Street Blues, We had no patterned pantyhose or Lipton herbal tea Or prime-time ads for those dysfunctions in the Land That Made Me, Me. There were no golden arches, no Perrier to chill, And fish were not called Wanda, and cats were not called Bill And middle-aged was 35 and old was forty-three, And ancient were our parents in the Land That Made Me, Me. But all things have a season, or so we've heard them say, And now instead of Maybelline we swear by Retin-A. They send us invitations to join AARP, We've come a long way, baby, from the Land That Made Me, Me. So now we face a brave new world in slightly larger jeans, And wonder why they're using smaller print in magazines. And we tell our children's children of the way it used to be, Long ago and far away in the Land That Made Me, Me. If you didn't grow up in the fiftys, You missed the greatest time in history, Hope you enjoyed this read as much as I did. Read the letter from Melania Trump responding to attempted assassination of Donald Trump
Read the letter from Melania Trump responding to attempted assassination of Donald Trump Former President Donald Trump and former first lady Melania Trump depart the funeral for Amalija Knavs, Melania Trump's mother, outside the Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea, in Palm Beach, Florida, on January 18, 2024. Giorgio Viera/AFP/Getty Images CNN — Former first lady Melania Trump issued her first public response since her husband, former President Donald Trump, was injured in a shooting at one of his rallies on Saturday, reflecting on what the incident means for her and her family while calling for the country to “ascend above the hate.” In a statement posted Sunday morning on X, Melania Trump thanked Secret Service agents and law enforcement officials for protecting her husband after a man fired shots toward the former president at his Butler, Pennsylvania, campaign rally, and said she’s thinking of her “fellow Americans” in the wake of the shooting. Read the full text of the letter below: Melania Trump July 14, 2024 I am thinking of you, now, my fellow Americans. We have always been a unique union. America, the fabric of our gentle nation is tattered, but our courage and common sense must ascend and bring us back together as one. When I watched that violent bullet strike my husband, Donald, I realized my life, and Barron’s life, were on the brink of devastating change. I am grateful to the brave secret service agents and law enforcement officials who risked their own lives to protect my husband. To the families of the innocent victims who are now suffering from this heinous act, I humbly offer my sincerest sympathy. Your need to summon your inner strength for such a terrible reason saddens me. A monster who recognized my husband as an inhuman political machine attempted to ring out Donald’s passion - his laughter, ingenuity, love of music, and inspiration. The core facets of my husband’s life - his human side - were buried below the political machine. Donald, the generous and caring man who I have been with through the best of times and the worst of times. Let us not forget that differing opinions, policy, and political games are inferior to love. Our personal, structural, and life commitment - until death - is at serious risk. Political concepts are simple when compared to us, human beings. We are all humans, and fundamentally, instinctively, we want to help one another. American politics are only one vehicle that can uplift our communities. Love, compassion, kindness and empathy are necessities. And let us remember that when the time comes to look beyond the left and the right, beyond the red and the blue, we all come from families with the passion to fight for a better life together, while we are here, in this earthly realm. Dawn is here again. Let us reunite. Now. This morning, ascend above the hate, the vitriol, and the simple-minded ideas that ignite violence. We all want a world where respect is paramount, family is first, and love transcends. We can realize this world again. Each of us must demand to get it back. We must insist that respect fills the cornerstone of our relationships again. I am thinking of you, my fellow Americans. The winds of change have arrived. For those of you who cry in support, I thank you. I commend those of you who have reached out beyond the political divide – thank you for remembering that every single politician is a man or a woman with a loving family.
