Crestron Integration with a Lansonic DAS-750-PRO? 3
Has anyone done any integration between a Crestron system and a Lansonic DAS-750-PRO? (www.lansonic.com). The Lansonic is a home MP3 deck which will be the mainstay of my distributed whole house audio controlling it via LC-1000 touchpads located throughout the house... I assume it's possible to control the Lansonic via RS232 and programming on the Crestron side. Any one done this or similar control w/feedback of what song is playing (title, artist, etc.) On a side note, anyone know what functions does the Lansonic support via RS-232? All functions on the remote or more/less?

Powere DVD command file 7
Does anyone have a Crestron file that allows control of Powere DVD 2.5 or 3.0? This is to give commands to a PC, acting as a DVD player for functions such as pause and play. Thanks in advance Rich

PowerDVD command file
I'm sending this message to both the Crestron group and directly to Richard: PowerDVD is a computer based DVD player, designed for HTPC (Home Theater PC) use and is a product of CyberLink (http://www.gocyberlink.com/english/index.asp). You can control it with either a keyboard or a mouse. Richard has an Airboard infrared wireless keyboard attached to his system, which from what I can find out is manufactured by Silitek Corporation. What he needs, based on my understanding is 1 of 2 things: 1) A Crestron IR driver for his keyboard. He currently has this for a Philips Pronto, but doesn't have access to a CNXLIR (from what I understand). Someone with a Pronto and a CNXLIR could probably help him out here. If no one can, I have shared access to a CNXLIR and own a Pronto, so next time I pick up the CNXLIR I could create a Crestron IR driver for him. or 2) A serial driver for his PC that will convert input to keyboard commands. This would allow him to connect his Crestron system to his PC through a serial port and execute the needed PowerDVD commands. After a quick look on the web, I think I've found just what is needed. Microsoft Windows includes some Accessibility Options which are primarily designed for disabled users. However, some of these aids have other uses. One of the features is called "SerialKeys" and is just what the doctor ordered for Richard's problem. Both keyboard and mouse movement can be simulated through a serial port, while the standard keyboard and mouse can still be used. Look at the following URL for details: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q260/5/17.ASP This would give a Crestron system a simple (and no cost) way to control a PC. My feeling is that using the serial port solution is better than the IR solution. Geoffrey Reynolds wrote: <srgtfury@...> wrote: 3.0? This is to pause and play. do, and you can get you.

VTPro-e "DOS Command Line Too Long..."
Hi, I am using VTPro-e to work on some new ST-1500 projects. I've used VTW in the past. When I try to compile a Smart Touch System, I get the error message "DOS Command Line Too Long. Try moving System to a directory like C:\Projects" (can't remember exact phrase). I havn't had this problem before with VTW. The system does compile when I move it to a "closer" folder as it says to do. If this is the case, why does VTPro-e create a "Projects" folder (i.e. C:\Crestron\VTPro-e\Projects) when it knows the command line to compile it will be too long? Also, I like to keep client's projects in their own folders (i.e. C:\Crestron\VTPro-e\Projects\Smith or C:\Crestron\VTPro-e\Projects\Jones). Is there any way around this? Any help would be appreciated! Mark Paquette markmarg@...

Projector control 3
I have a projector that you have to push the off button twice to turn it off. I thought for sure that a delay symbol could be used in this situation, you send the command to the projector and to the delay (set for 2 or 3 seconds) then the signal repeats itself after the allocated time. I assumed the delay symbol would give you a pulse after the delay time but it stays high. Is this to be expected? Don Reeve Lewis & Clark College

Getting started with SIMPL Windows and other stuff... 7
I'm considering upgrading from the ST-CP to either a CNMSX-PRO or CNMSX-AV. In order to do this, I'll need to learn SIMPL and get away from relying on VisionTools to take care of everything for me. To that end, I started playing with SIMPL for the first time in a while last night. What I tried actually worked on the first try :). A few questions: 1) Am I correct in assuming that for straightforward actions such as linking the VCR Play button on the touchpanel to sending out an IR command is as simple as connecting the press on the touchpanel to the command on the device? I did this and it worked, but I want to make sure I'm doing things correctly before I go too far. 2) Some of the buttons on my touchpanel execute VisionTools macros (as opposed to SIMPL macros). For these, should I be using a "Stepper"? Is the difference between a "Button Presser" and a "Stepper" the ability to add delays and time each output? 3) Serial devices. I have a couple of serial devices connected to my ST-CP, using the Crestron Custom Serial drivers. These don't appear to be available as devices in SIMPL Windows. Which symbol should I be using as an equivalent to the custom serial drivers? These devices send and receive serial data (ASCII text, no binary data). Looks like I should redo the join assignments in my touchpanel project to get all the joins for a given device together, as they're currently scattered all over the place :(. Is there any sort of a market for used Crestron equipment? If I upgrade, I'll want to sell off my ST-CP and ST-IO. What could I expect to sell them for? Anyone out there interested in working out a trade? :) I have to get my system working in SIMPL before I'll be ready to do anything. Thanks for any help, Geoff

Asking for CAMI, Camera / Lens, and Auto Mic Mixer advice....
1. Anybody willing to offer their experiences with the CAMI? 2. Any advice on camera & lens combinations that have worked well in terms of performance and Crestron "controllability"? I'll need good to excellent video performance - we'll output to local monitors & projectors, a video Codec, VHS tape, and broadcast. 3. Any advice on Auto Mic Mixers that have worked well in terms of performance and Crestron "controllability"? The only one I have any real experience with is the Gentner AP-800. I'll need an odd combination of auto-gating with a limited NOM, with brief periods where many/most of the room's mics gate open. Sorry about all the general questions, but I'm brand new to Crestron, and my background is residential/home theater. Thanks! Barry Shaw Mobile 605-391-5212 barry@...

Using the Current Sense Logic 3
Do any of you have documentation for the Crestron Current Sense Logic module? As a SIMPL newbie, it's not entirely clear what OFF-FB is for, for example. Here's my best guess at the various parameters: ON-B - An input signal which forces the power on. OFF-B - An input signal which forces the power off. ON/OFF-B - An input signal which toggles the power. ON-FB - An input signal from a digital source that is live if the device is on. ON/OFF-IR - An output signal which triggers the appropriate power toggle command for the device when needed (usually IR). OFF-FB - No idea LOCKOUT-TIME - How long to wait till rechecking the status? Thanks again, Geoffrey Reynolds

Using Button Presser with IR Ports 6
I'm just now catching up on last week's posts to E-groups and noticed Geoffreys question regarding the use of a stepper or button presser for creating macros. It reminded me of something I discovered a while back that caused me some grief. The Button Presser symbol drives all the outputs high when the input is high. The problem with using this to simulate a ST-CP macro is that the IR Card only has one chip. Since the chip can only process one signal at a time, if you were to send, for example, 4 power on commands at once the chip can't do it, so it cascades them. Now, for short signals this isn't a problem, and can work, but for signals that need to be held on for a period of time it creates a problem. The example we saw was with the Lutron Spacer lighting system. We wanted to ramp up several lights at once. Using a button presser, resulted in the first 2 lights going up 1 or 2% and the third light ramping all the way up. In retrospect, it seems like a common sense thing to realize you can't run more that one IR port on an IR card at the same time, but standing in a customer's business trying to make it work, it didn't seem so obvious. Just thought I'd share. Shawn

Digest Number 95
Have you guys considered sending copies of your emails to the editor of Stereophile Guide to Home Theater? They gave the AVR-5800 a glowing review an issue or 2 back and included mention of the RS-232 port to control it. Why not let SGHT know that they should make sure the protocol is available before finishing their review? If they get enough emails, I'm sure they'll contact Denon and put something in the Letters column in a future issue. It really burns me up when manufacturers do this. In fact, I'm inclined to drop SGHT an email too. They've been doing a poor job of covering the control side of products they review. They always mention the inclusion of the ports, but never go into what's involved in getting the codes to use them. Obviously, the ports are useless without the appropriate protocol. I also posted a similar message to ezboard. Geoffrey Reynolds

RCA DTC 100 2
1st-thank you John for the converted Power DVD file. When I get it working, I will post the file here, if anyone is interested. Does anyone have a really good RCA DTC 100 file? The ones on the Crestron site lack some of the commands. Thanks again Rich

Stepper symbol 2
I've just about got my system converted over to SIMPL. I spent most of Monday afternoon connecting the touchpanel signals and now just have the VisionTools macros to convert over. The help for the Stepper symbol says: "If the symbol is idle, a positive transition on <trig> will start the sequencer and turn on <busy> if it is defined." To me, that implies that I don't have to define anything for the <busy> output. However, if I don't SIMPL won't let me compile, giving me a "There are incomplete symbols in this program." message. It's easy enough for me to just define a name the signal, but is there a way to leave it unused? I'm starting to really like this SIMPL software. For a relatively straightforward program, such as mine, it really is easy to use, but gives so much more control over things than VisionTools does when needed. The real trick is obviously picking the correct combination of symbols for the more complex tasks :). Thanks, Geoffrey Reynolds

Looking for Chislom(sp?) RS232 or Discrete IR 5
I recently inherited a project that already had a Chislom Cinemaster Projector. The Owners manual is no where to be found and the one Chisolm Serial driver crestron has doesnt work this model. I'm sure this unit is bases on a NEC or Fujitsu so I would assume they share the same RS232 code set, but I could not find a manufactured by marking anywhere on the unit. Any ideas? So far i've integraded their 2 AudioControl Director 46 Multi-Zone pre-amps, Projector Lift and Motorized screen, And Theater System into this AV. I'm also going to be adding a Arrakis 100-4 with the new 6 output card. Does anyone know If I can just modify the current crestron module that supports the 3 output version, or did they change it drastically? Thanks John

discrete TV Commands 5
I've got discrete commands for a lot of TV's (Power, Input selection) including Sony, Mits, Rca/Proscan, some panasonic, and a couple other off brand sets....... Does anyone have any confirmed codes for the new Panasonic TAU sets? I havent tried my Codes yet, but gut instint tells me it they aint gonna do it...... This forum might be a great place to start a small Discrete IR library... How long does e-groups leave items in out files area?
