New Versions of All Contest Software Now Available!
Hi All, Kimberly and I hope that you had a very Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and that you are enjoying a wonderful holiday season! We have exciting announcements detailing multiple new N3FJP Software features to kick off 2020 and the new decade ahead! New Versions of All the Contest Software are Now Available! Upgrades to all the contest software include: - Filtering of DX spotted digital mode frequencies can be blocked or enabled independently from CW / SSB. Click More Filtering on the DX Spotting set up form to configure. - Added Tab Sends Message (TSM) option for voice F keys (already existed for CW). Press Ctrl + Shift + G to enable. - Use Shift (or Ctrl + Shift) + Up / Down, Left / Right arrows to tune your rig's frequency with rig interface enabled (explanation below). - State QSO Party Programs - State / Province / Country (SPC) field will also accept the county. - Added Yaesu - Newer 2 option on the rig interface form's rig list to support Yaesu 991, Yaesu 101 D and Yaesu 101 MP. - User added DX Spotting telnet sites are saved and available for selection in the drop down list on the DX Spotting set up form. - Added optional filtering for Advanced and Technician frequency privileges (in addition to the already existing General filtering). - Any unworked call in the Super Check Partial (SCP) list that exactly matches what you've typed in the Call field is highlighted in green (with Super Check Partial enabled). - Corrected form display anomalies on 4K monitors. - Passive Mode Option for FTP Web Upload (Settings > Web Upload Status Settings). By the way, most of these features are already available in Amateur Contact Log 6.6 as well, which I released in November, 2019. http://www.n3fjp.com/news/news2019-11-13.html As always, upgrades are free to registered users! Just uninstall your previous version from Windows Control Panel, install the latest from the program's download link and you will be all set! More Details on Keyboard Fine Tuning: I am particularly excited about our new keyboard fine tuning feature! I've really been enjoying using the various contest software options to quickly jump to the next spotted station, including Ctrl + Shift + Z, jump to the next DX Spot on entry, clicking on a DX spot, etc., but occasionally, the spotted frequency is slightly off. Up until now, this has required a reach for the VFO, which costs precious contest seconds and necessitates repetitive physical readjustment, as well as having to lift our hands from the keyboard. I wanted the ability to tune in the station faster, without having to reach for the rig, so I've coded the software to do just that! Here are the keyboard commands (with rig interface enabled): SSB: Ctrl + Left / Right (large jump): +-500 Hz Ctrl + Shift + Left / Right (medium jump): +-150 Hz Ctrl + Up / Down (small jump): +-50 Hz Ctrl + Shift + Up / Down (tiny jump): +-10 Hz CW / DIG: Ctrl + Left / Right (large jump): +-250 Hz Ctrl + Shift + Left / Right (medium jump): +-80 Hz Ctrl + Up / Down (small jump): +-20 Hz Ctrl + Shift + Up / Down (tiny jump): +-5 Hz That may seem complicated, but don't focus on the actual values. When you try it and actually tune in stations on the air with your keyboard, it will quickly become intuitive. I tested this feature extensively during 2019 CQ WW and November Sweepstakes. In most cases, I found simply holding Ctrl and using the Up / Down arrow keys was sufficient to quickly tune in a station that was slightly off from his spotted frequency. More Details on State QSO Party SPC Functionality: Running a frequency on CW, when you are copying letter by letter and you don't know if a state or county is coming, until now, we've had to guess whether to start in the State / Province / Country (SPC) field or county field and then adjust as the value becomes clear. With the latest versions of the State QSO Party software, when a county value (either full county name or abbreviation) is typed in the SPC field, the software will automatically move the county over to the county field when we press enter. Hi All, I'm excited to let you know that... Amateur Contact Log 6.6 is Now Available! Click More Filtering on the DX Spotting set up form to configure. As always, upgrades are free to registered users. Please just follow these upgrade steps here: http://www.n3fjp.com/upgradestepsaclog.html Lord willing, if I can complete all the upgrades in time, I am planning a global release of all my contest software in early January, which will include all of the non AC Log specific features listed above as well! More Details on Keyboard Fine Tuning: I am particularly excited about the new keyboard fine tuning feature. It was inspired while using my contest software and it really came in handy in my contest betas during CQ WW SSB and ARRL Sweepstakes CW, so I have gone ahead and added it to AC Log, too. I have really been enjoying using the various contest software options to quickly jump to the next spotted station including Ctrl + Shift + Z, jump to next DX Spot on entry, clicking on a spot, etc., but occasionally the spotted frequency is slightly off, requiring a reach for the VFO. I wanted the ability to tune in the station more quickly, without having to reach for the rig, so I've coded the software to do just that! Here are the keyboard commands: SSB: Ctrl + Right / Left (large jump): +-500 Hz Ctrl + Shift + Right / Left (medium jump): +-150 Hz Ctrl + Down / Up (small jump): +-50 Hz Ctrl + Shift + Down / Up (tiny jump): +-10 Hz CW / DIG: Ctrl + Right / Left (large jump): +-250 Hz Ctrl + Shift + Right / Left (medium jump): +-80 Hz Ctrl + Down / Up (small jump): +-20 Hz Ctrl + Shift + Down / Up (tiny jump): +-5 Hz That may seem complicated, but don't get caught up in the actual values. I think when you try it and actually tune in stations on the air with your keyboard, it will quickly become intuitive. In most cases, I found simply holding Ctrl and using the Up / Down arrow keys was sufficient to quickly tune in a station that was slightly off from his spotted frequency. Pre Contest Checklist Reminder! With ARRL November Sweepstakes SSB and CQ WW CW coming up, I want to remind everyone to please take a moment and review this pre contest checklist. Most of the contest support questions I receive are from those who haven't. I use it myself, every time. http://www.n3fjp.com/help/contestchecklist.html And in response to the questions we always receive when we neglect to include the following in our e-mail announcements... Package Upgrade Information... If you have registered one or more individual programs and would like to upgrade to N3FJP's Software Package for full use of all our Amateur Radio software, we would be glad to apply the amount that you have registered so far as a credit towards that purchase. Please send us an e-mail directly and we'll let you know your balance. N3FJP's Software Package includes more than one hundred programs for contesting, net management and general logging Amateur Radio applications. In addition to full use of all these programs, registered package customers are also entitled to receive free pa

Hiram Percy Maxim Contest Log 1.0 is Now Available - Free!
Hi All, Hiram Percy Maxim Contest Log 1.0 is Now Available! With short notice and a very full plate, I didn't think that I was going to be be able to create a program for ARRL's Hiram Percy Maxim celebration next month, but given the excellent rule set, large number of enthusiastic user requests and a bit of schedule rework, I was able to find a way! If you aren't familiar with ARRL's Hiram Percy Maxim celebration, all the rules and details are here: http://www.arrl.org/hpm150-birthday-celebration As most of you know, I've never created a program for a non recurring event before because the coding time required is too large. I've made this exception because this is a really nice, simple rule set with the very popular Field Day style exchange (just replace class with RST), that has the added bonus in schedule flexibility of running for 9 days! Hiram Percy Maxim celebration sure looks like a well designed event that will be a lot of fun for us all! Given all the e-mail I've been receiving, many of you are really excited too! In fact, if Hiram Percy Maxim celebration is received as strongly as it appears, my hope is that ARRL will decide to make this an annual event. After all, birthdays come once a year and we now have the infrastructure to continue in place! You will find Hiram Percy Maxim Contest Log 1.0 here: http://www.n3fjp.com/hpmaxim.html Hiram Percy Maxim Contest Log 1.0 is very easy and intuitive to use. It has all the features that you have come to expect and enjoy in my software including rig interface, current score statistics, sections changing color when worked (and spotted), DX spotting, super check partial, sending CW, a map which colors in worked sections, interface with many digital programs, creation of your Cabrillo file for log submission and much more! Hiram Percy Maxim Contest Log is free for everyone! No password or registration is required. This is a great opportunity to introduce your buddies to my software and have them join us in the celebration, so please tell a friend to download the software and give it a try! Enjoy Hiram Percy Maxim Contest Log and welcome to the birthday party! And in response to the questions we always receive when we neglect to include the following in our e-mail announcements... Amateur Contact Log 6.5 is Now Available!
Hi All, Just a quick announcement to let you know that... Amateur Contact Log 6.5 is Now Available! Enhancements include: - Updated to export FT4 in accordance with the anticipated new ADIF protocols. - Corrected form display anomalies on 4K monitors. - Satellite Name and Prop Mode fields default to previous entry when visible. This release wasn't planned just now, but it is necessitated by FT4 bursting on the scene. Lots of FT4 users are eager to upload their data to LoTW, etc. Being a brand new mode, the ADIF transfer specifications are just now being finalized by the ADIF committee. It turns out that FT4 ADIF specs will likely differ from how FT8 and many other modes are handled, which requires this update. Even after installing this update, you will not be able to upload your FT4 QSOs to LoTW quite yet. ARRL will likely have to update their TQSL software to accept FT4 as well. Keep an eye out for ARRL's announcements for updates on the latest TQSL release. As always, upgrades are free to registered users. Please just follow the upgrade steps detailed here: http://www.n3fjp.com/upgradestepsaclog.html Enjoy! Only 44 Days Left Until Field Day! In case you missed last week's announcement, I covered lots of Field Day reminders and tips here: http://www.n3fjp.com/news/news2019-05-02.html I hope to work you on Field Day weekend! Have fun! 7QP In & Out of Region 3.1 Now Available and Field Day 2019 Reminder!
Hi All, I have a few announcements to share with you... 7QP In & Out of Region 3.1 Logs Are Now Available! I just received word yesterday that the 7QP folks have changed their scoring for digital contacts from 3 points to 4. I've updated both the in region and out of region programs accordingly. It is only necessary to upgrade to 3.1 if you are planning to operate digital. Fortunately this was a minor rule change that I was able to accommodate on short notice, but far more lead time is usually required, most welcome and really appreciated. As always, upgrades are free to registered users. You'll find the new versions here and a link to the upgrade steps at the top of the page: http://www.n3fjp.com/stateqsoparty.html Enjoy! Just 51 Days Until Field Day! Before we know it, ARRL Field Day will be in full swing! To help get ready, here are a few thoughts and reminders... Field Day Contest Log 6.0 is the Latest - Please Install Now I'm not planning to make any changes to the Field Day contest software between now and Field Day. If you haven't already, please go ahead and install version 6.0 now . Please make sure that your CW ops are aware of the new CW Tab Sends Message (TSM) feature (press Ctrl + Shift + G from the main form to enable / disable), as that will help them move right along even faster this year! You'll find 6.0 here: http://www.n3fjp.com/fieldday.html Field Day Software Quick Start Video To get new Field Day folks up to speed on the N3FJP Field Day software prior to Field Day, or if you need a quick review yourself, this video will have everyone ready to go when they arrive to your Field Day site. Please share this video with all who you think may attend! https://youtu.be/DJEIXuoKWqc Please Find Your Password Now! If you haven't already entered your registration information, please don't wait until the last minute to realize that you can't find your password (or register the Field Day software). If you can't find your password, Kimberly is happy to help, but the week leading up to Field Day gets crazy, so if you can't find yours, please e-mail us now. Install the Field Day Software and Test Your Network in Advance! If you plan to use a network for Field Day and haven't already done so, it's time to get all the PCs you'll be using together and make sure your network is all set. Complete details on networking my Field Day software using both File Share and TCP methods are here. http://www.n3fjp.com/help/networkinghelp.html If you are running multiple stations but aren't networking, here is how to combine your log data after the contest. http://www.n3fjp.com/faq.html#q65 Please take a little time well before the contest, get your PCs together and your network up and running. As always, problems easily solved in a relaxed atmosphere can seem insurmountable when the clock is ticking! Interface Your Digital Software If you plan to operate any digital modes, including FT8, (and maybe FT4) please make sure that you've interfaced your digital software with my Field Day software, so that when you log the QSO in the digital software, it is immediately and automatically logged in the Field Day software. Quick setup details on interfacing my Field Day software with a number of digital programs, including WSJT via JTAlert, FLDigi, N7YG, W4ELP and others are here: http://www.n3fjp.com/help/digitalsetup.html Whether you are a contester or not, please get on the air and make some Field Day contacts! As we approach Field Day weekend, groups from all over the continent will be making final preparations, getting equipment, generators, food, rigs and computers together, antennas airborne, coordinating operating schedules and all the little things that make Field Day go. In many cases they will be on the air for many hours, striving to both show off the amazing hobby of Amateur Radio and turn in a competitive score. It is a huge amount of fun and a heck of a lot of work! Please help reward their great efforts by providing plenty of QSOs for their logs! Even if you aren't a contester, and you only have an hour to spare from home, ple

Macedonia Changing Name to North Macedonia
Hi All, Happy Spring! Just a quick note... Macedonia has changed their name to North Macedonia. The country list that Jim, AD1C released yesterday reflects that. To download Jim's latest release, just click File > Download Country Files from AD1C. You only have to download once to update all the N3FJP Software programs. If you haven't worked Macedonia yet, there is no need to read further. If you have worked Macedonia, to correct your country count, you can either edit your QSOs with Macedonia, changing them to North Macedonia manually, or let AC Log correct all of your QSOs at once as follows: - Backup your log file (File > Create Backup). - Click File > Export ADIF > Whole Log. - Click File > Reset Counter and enter 0. - Click File > Import ADIF and select the ADIF file you just exported. Once the import completes, all your QSOs with Macedonia will be changed to North Macedonia automatically and will be counted appropriately when you run the Awards function. As always, many thanks to Jim, AD1C for all his hard work maintaining our country list for us! More details on Jim's country files are here: http://www.country-files.com/ Enjoy! 73, Scott N3FJP http://www.n3fjp.com Serving the Amateur Radio community with contesting and general logging software since 1997. 1 Peter 3 vs 15: Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. Slow QRZ XML Lookup Service
Hi All, If you are a QRZ XML callbook data lookup subscriber, you may have noticed that after tabbing from the Call field in AC Log, there is a significant delay before the lookup completes. This appears to be a problem with the QRZ Service, not AC Log. Aside from being an XML data subscriber, I am not affiliated with QRZ. I attempted to contact QRZ a short time ago to see if they are aware of a problem with their server. I will let know what I hear, but for the most meaningful updates, the QRZ folks are your best source of information. Hopefully they will have their service restored quickly. In the mean time, you can disable the QRZ lookup by clicking Callbook > QRZ Internet and unchecking the check box. Enjoy! 73, Scott N3FJP http://www.n3fjp.com Serving the Amateur Radio community with contesting and general logging software since 1997. 1 Peter 3 vs 15: Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. ARRL RTTY Roundup Software Should Work for FT8 Roundup This Weekend!
Hi All, I've been receiving lots of questions on whether my ARRL RTTY Contest Log will support this weekend's new FT8 Roundup contest, so I took a quick look at the rules. The FT8 Roundup contest appears to include the same bands, scoring, multipliers and QSO points as the ARRL RTTY Roundup software, so ARRL RTTY Contest Log should work for the FT8 contest this weekend! The complete rules are here: https://www.rttycontesting.com/ft8-roundup/rules/ And my ARRL RTTY Roundup Contest software is here: http://www.n3fjp.com/rttyroundup.html In addition to AC Log, JTAlert will also connect WSJT with my contesting software too. Just be aware that JTAlert is set up to default to AC Log, so if you just use the JTAlert defaults, JTAlert will not be able to verify that the QSO was added and present a warning. To remedy that, Laurie, VK3AMA (the JTAlert author) writes: JTAlert setup for AC Log is designed to require no setup by the user (except for enabling AC Log logging) with JTAlert automatically determining the correct API port and log file location by reading the ACLog config file. This automatic setup can be bypassed, allowing for manual selection of a non-AC Log log file by setting the Remote Network PC option in the JTAlert settings. This will allow JTAlert to verify QSOs and perform accurate B4 checks against the non-AC Log log file. Details on connecting my software with WSJT via JTAlert are here: http://www.n3fjp.com/help/digitalsetup.html#wsjtx Enjoy! 73, Scott N3FJP http://www.n3fjp.com Serving the Amateur Radio community with contesting and general logging software since 1997. 1 Peter 3 vs 15: Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. Transfer to Groups.io In Process
Good Morning All, I hope that everyone had a great Thanksgiving and that you enjoyed CQ World Wide CW this past weekend! You may remember that about a week ago, the settings for this Announcements Only group suddenly changed, without any intervention from me and you began to see e-mail from other users. Resaving the settings seems to have corrected the problem, but that event, along with requests from many users, has prompted me to initiate the process to move this Announcements Only group to Groups.io. There isn't anything that you have to do. Groups.io will take care of the transfer and they will notify us when it is complete. Aside from your receiving a notification from Groups.io that the group has been transferred, the intent is that you will continue to only receive e-mail from me on this group. I just want to give you a heads up, so that you'll understand the reason for the notification you'll receive from Groups.io. Apparently Groups.io has quite a backlog of transfer requests, so it may be a few days or more before the transfer is complete. If for any reason you would like to unsubscribe from the current Announcements Only group prior to the transfer, please just send a blank e-mail to this address here: n3fjp_software-unsubscribe@... Working to Correct Announcement Group Anomaly
Hi All, Our Yahoogroups Announcements Only group, where only I can send messages, has always been set so that only I can post and has worked fine for over 15 years. Suddenly, without any changes from me, the group is now sending replies intended for me to everyone. I have double checked and it is still set to reply only to me. I have just resaved those group settings and hope that it will take affect, but I am also going to look at moving the group to Groups.io. I am very sensitive to e-mail volume, I apologize for the inconvenience and I am working to resolve this as quickly as possible. Hopefully the resaved settings will work, but if you wish to unsubscribe from the current Announcements Only group, please just send a blank e-mail here: n3fjp_software-unsubscribe@... Thanks for your patience and cooperation. 73, Scott N3FJP http://www.n3fjp.com Serving the Amateur Radio community with contesting and general logging software since 1997. 1 Peter 3 vs 15: Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. ARRL RTTY Roundup 3.5, VHF 6.2 Now Available and Sweepstakes SSB Reminder!
Hi All, ARRL RTTY Roundup 3.5 and VHF Contest Log 6.2 are Now Available! In response to ARRL's request for the ability to separate RTTY from other digital modes on the Cabrillo submittal file, I have updated these two programs accordingly. With these new versions, RTTY will continue to display as RY, while other digital modes will be designated DG on the Cabrillo file. When you select the digital mode option in my software, RTTY is the default. Since most of us are setting our rigs to SSB and using sound card interfaces for digital, there isn't a way to determine via rig interface which specific digital mode you are using. Some digital programs that interface with my software, such as JT Alert, will transfer the specific mode, but if you are using a digital program that doesn't, when you operate a digital mode other than RTTY, you must remember to manually enter the digital mode from the menu option, or by pressing Ctrl + Shift + M. You will also have to remember to manually disable the mode override when you switch back to RTTY. In the heat of the contest, don't forget! As always, upgrades are free to registered users! You will find the ARRL RTTY Roundup Contest Log software here: http://www.n3fjp.com/rttyroundup.html And the VHF Contest Log here: http://www.n3fjp.com/vhfuhf.html Please be sure to follow these upgrade steps: http://www.n3fjp.com/upgradestepscontest.html ARRL November Sweepstakes SSB This Weekend! Very few of us can leap tall buildings in a single bound, but with luck and perseverance, we might just work all 83 US & Canadian Sections in a single weekend for a Clean Sweep, which is nearly as satisfying! Working a clean sweep is a challenge, but it's definitely possible, even if you have a modest station. I've done it a number of times with just 100 watts and dipoles. November Sweepstakes SSB begins 2100 UTC Saturday (4:00 PM EST) and runs through 0259 UTC Monday (10:00 PM Sunday EST). Whether your goal is to focus on the sweep, or you are going for lots of points, November Sweepstakes is one of the most enjoyable contests out there! Work all 83 sections for a clean sweep and you will do the happy dance (you can't help yourself!) and earn the right to an ARRL clean sweep mug! But even if you just make 100 Qs, whether you complete the sweep or not, you can receive a participation pin from ARRL. Even if you don't consider yourself a contester, you will likely enjoy the challenge of working the sweep, so please get on this weekend, make some Qs and no matter how many you wind up with, please be sure to submit your log! Complete rules are here: http://www.arrl.org/sweepstakes And the contest software is here: http://www.n3fjp.com/novsweeps.html I hope to work you! Good luck and enjoy sweepstakes!!!! Invite a Friend to Sweepstakes SSB This Weekend! Along with Field Day, November Sweepstakes is one of the best contests to invite a friend over for a cup of coffee and a taste of Amateur Radio. What a great opportunity to demonstrate the excitement of attempting to work all 83 US and Canadian sections in a single weekend! Let your buddy hear first hand the sounds of signals from across the content and experience the thrill of finding those needed sections! You may just bring a new ham into the fold and, Lord willing, have years of fun sharing our great hobby together ahead! And in response to the questions we always receive when we neglect to include the following in our e-mail announcements... Package Upgrade Information... If you have registered one or more individual programs and would like to upgrade to N3FJP's Software Package for full use of all our Amateur Radio software, we would be glad to apply the amount that you have registered so far as a credit towards that purchase. AC Log 6.4 Now Available (LoTW Download Fix)!
Hi All, Amateur Contact Log 6.4 is Now Available! Just today, 10/15/18, ARRL implemented a new security protocol on their web site that I originally understood would only affect AC Log users on now unsupported operating systems (XP and Vista users). It quickly became evident that all users of my software, regardless of operating system, could no longer download LoTW data from within AC Log. Thanks to my genius son, Chris, KB3KCN, (who knows much more about Internet security than I do) and in cooperation with ARRL, we have upgraded AC Log's LoTW download code so that it will work with ARRL's new system. To continue to be able to download from LoTW, please go ahead and follow these instructions here: http://www.n3fjp.com/upgradestepsaclog.html As always, upgrades are free to registered users! Thanks so much for your patience and cooperation as we diagnosed and resolved the unexpected anomaly! Enjoy! And in response to the questions we always receive when we neglect to include the following in our e-mail announcements... Package Upgrade Information... Downloads From LoTW Not Working
Hi All, I am aware that downloading data from the ARRL site currently is not working from within AC Log. ARRL made security changes to their web site today that they said would cause XP and Vista operating systems to no longer work, but presently all OS flavors are failing when you attempt to download LoTW data from within AC Log. I have e-mailed ARRL to hopefully better determine if the problem is theirs, mine or both. I understand your frustration and I am doing my best to see if I can resolve the problem from this end as well. I will let you know as soon as anything develops, but this may take some time. Thanks for your patience and understanding. 73, Scott N3FJP http://www.n3fjp.com Serving the Amateur Radio community with contesting and general logging software since 1997. 1 Peter 3 vs 15: Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. QRZ Service Not Working
Hi All, I am receiving multiple reports that the QRZ XML call data server is down this morning (even though the QRZ site itself is still up). When an external function or device suddenly stops working and you haven't changed any settings in the software, you can be sure something external to the software is at play. Please note that I am not able to answer support / repair time estimate questions for other services such as QRZ. I am not directly affiliated with any of the services my software supports, so if a service you are using goes down, please contact the service provider directly for status repair updates. Once they repair their server you should be all set. Thanks and enjoy! 73, Scott N3FJP http://www.n3fjp.com Serving the Amateur Radio community with contesting and general logging software since 1997. 1 Peter 3 vs 15: Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. New Contest Software Enhancements, New PA QP & Wordsmithing Contesting!
Hi All, I'm really excited to share the latest N3FJP Contest Software upgrades with you! New Versions for All Major Contest Programs are Now Available! The latest contest software enhancements (most of which were already in the last release of AC Log) include: ** Added CW Tab Sends Message (TSM) feature. Saving two keystrokes per QSO may not sound like a lot, but it really creates a much smoother CW experience when running a frequency. To enable / disable the Tab Sends Message (TSM) option, press Ctrl + Shift + G from the main form. With TSM enabled, when you tab from the Call field, the F2 string will be automatically sent. When you press enter, the F3 string will be automatically sent. The idea is to set up your F key strings like this (using W1AW as an example for the CQ World Wide contest exchange) for running a frequency: F1: TEST W1AW F2: $ 5NN 5 ($ is the wild card for the value you've typed in the Call field on the main form). With TSM enabled, the software will automatically send the exchange when you tab from the Call field, by pressing space bar or tab. F3: TU W1AW The software will automatically send this when you press the Enter key to log the contact. Please give this a try and practice a little bit. I think that once you get the hang of it, you are really going to love it! ** Additional DX Spotting menu items including spot on entry, jump to next spot on entry, band map, and large DX spots form. All these features already existed as keyboard shortcuts, but you can now enable them using the menu options as well. Please note that the spot DX on entry and jump to next spot on entry option settings are always disabled when you launch the programs, since it is easy to forget they are on. You definitely won't want them enabled when you are running a frequency, but you probably will when you are in Search and Pounce mode. Remember, spotting stations helps you too, since you are directing guys to a station that is already in your log, so there may be less competition for the next station you are trying to work! ** Fire rig internal memories from F keys in CW mode when CW keying option not selected. It is no longer necessary to select a CW keying option if you want to use your rig's internal memories (for rigs that support this feature). ** Flex users are now fed DX Spots directly, which will appear on their panadapters. On the rig interface form, just select Flex API to enable rig interface and also receive the spot postings. All these upgrades are free to registered users and available for all the contest software, except for the state QSO party programs. Lord willing, I hope to have these enhancements added to the state QSO party software in the next few months, too. New Pennsylvania QSO Party Programs are Now Available! PA In State 4.4 and Out of State 4.2 have been updated for the new contest rules and are now on the website. You'll find these free upgrades here: http://www.n3fjp.com/stateqsoparty.html Wordsmithing Contesting? Have you ever tried communicating the joy, thrills and fun that radiosport brings to a new ham, much less a non ham friend? Is there a way to explain contesting in a concise, compelling and relatable way, so that they understand well enough to be excited and intrigued, without ever having experienced it first hand? If it is possible, it is well worth trying! One of my goals has been to add a page on n3fjp.com that does just that, but I'm confident some folks here have better words than mine. If you would like to try a two or three paragraph explanation that effectively communicates why we love this stuff and you wouldn't mind me including your words (in whole or in part), please send along your prose! Encouraging Club Contesting! And speaking of the joys of contesting, I want to encourage everyone to consider setting up a local group (formally or informally) to enjoy the contest experience with your friends in real time. Sure, we like to see how we do overall, but our fun has increased multifold, primarily by keeping our text chat room open throughout the contest weekend, pulling together as a group and watching our local club leaderboard update in real time. You can learn lots more about how we do that here: http://www.n3fjp.com/help/clubcontesting.html Please Submit Your Contest Logs! Many folks have told me over the years that they love playing in contests, but for a variety of reasons never actually submit their logs to the contest sponsors. Submitting your logs to ARRL and CQ has never been easier and literally takes about two minutes. It's of great benefit to the contest sponsors to get a more accurate assessment of participation. Submitting your log helps me too, as some sponsors track usage of contest logging software. Besides, even if you place at the bottom, it is fun to see where you wind up and perhaps help you set a goal for next time. You may find out your are doing better than you think! And in response to the questions we always receive when we neglect to include the following in our e-mail announcements... Package Upgrade Information... Amateur Contact Log 6.3, AL 1.7 and AZ 1.9 Now Avaiable!
Hi All, Amateur Contact Log 6.3 is Now Available! The main emphasis of AC Log 6.3 is to satisfy the many Flex users who have been writing me, eager to see DX Spots appear on their panadapters fed directly from my software, but there are some other new goodies in 6.3 too. Here is the enhancement summary: Flex users are now fed DX Spots directly, which will appear on their panadapters. On the rig interface form, just select Flex API to enable rig interface and also receive the spot postings. Lord willing, I hope to have this feature incorporated into all the major contest programs before the Fall / Winter contest season goes into high gear as well. Added CW Tab Sends Message (TSM) feature. This feature is intended primarily for the contest software, but works in AC Log too. When you are running a frequency, to enable the Tab Sends Message (TSM) option, press Ctrl + Shift + G from the main form. With TSM enabled, when you tab from the Call field, the F2 string will be sent. When you press enter, the F3 string will be sent. It may seem like a small thing, but not having to reach for the F2 key each time your CQ is answered and F3 after you enter a QSO really makes for a smoother contest flow. I hope to have this feature incorporated into all the major contest programs before the Fall / Winter contest season too. Fire rig internal memories from F keys in CW mode when CW keying option is not selected. It is no longer necessary to select a CW keying option if you want to use your rig's internal memories (for rigs that support this feature). Save award query settings in AC Log. Since we often query awards with the same parameters, your query options are now saved and will appear next time you load either awards form. Change Kilometers to km in AC Log. I had several requests to shorten kilometers to km for those opting for that measure (Settings > Appearance > Display Distance as Kilometers). FT8+ added to AC Log mode list. In anticipation of the new FT8+ mode, I've added that option to the mode drop down list. As always, you aren't limited to the modes in the list. You can type any mode you like in the mode field. Just be sure that the LoTW folks support your mode designation (or plan to). More details on FT8+ are here: http://physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/k1jt/wsjt-x_v2.0.txt As always, upgrades are free to registered users! You'll find Amateur Contact Log 6.3 here: http://www.n3fjp.com/aclog.html And the upgrade steps here: http://www.n3fjp.com/upgradestepsaclog.html Upgrades for the Alabama (1.7) and Arizona (1.9) QSO Party Contest Logs are Now Available! I've updated the instate and out of state programs for both parties to accommodate the new contest rules for their respective contests. In the case of the AZ party, after upgrading, you must click File > Download County List File to load the new county abbreviations. This step isn't necessary for a new installations. As always, upgrades are free to registered users! Just 17 Days Until Field Day - Get Ready!
Hi All, I hope that everyone is having a great spring! In just 17 days, ARRL Field Day will be in full swing! To help get ready, here are a few thoughts and reminders... Field Day Software Quick Start Video To get new Field Day folks up to speed on the N3FJP Field Day software prior to Field Day, or if you need a quick review yourself, this video will have everyone ready to go when they arrive to your Field Day site. If you haven't already installed Field Day Contest Log 5.8 (released 3/14/2018), please do so now. You'll find it here (don't forget to uninstall the previous version first if you are upgrading): http://www.n3fjp.com/fieldday.html If you plan to use a network for Field Day and haven't already done so, it's time to get all the PCs you'll be using together and make sure your network is all set. Complete details on networking my Field Day software using both File Share and TCP methods are here: http://www.n3fjp.com/help/networkinghelp.html If you are running multiple stations but aren't networking, here is how to combine your log data after the contest: http://www.n3fjp.com/faq.html#q65 Please take a little time well before the contest, get your PCs together and your network up and running. As always, problems easily solved in a relaxed atmosphere can seem insurmountable when the clock is ticking! Interface Your Digital Software If you plan to operate any digital modes, please make sure that you've interfaced your digital software with my Field Day software, so that when you log the QSO in the digital software, it is immediately and automatically logged in the Field Day software. Quick setup details on interfacing my Field Day software with a number of digital programs are here: http://www.n3fjp.com/help/digitalsetup.html Whether you are a contester or not, please get on the air and make some Field Day contacts! Even if you aren't a contester, and you only have an hour to spare from home, please fire up your rig and give as many stations as you can a contact. Every group you call will really appreciate your QSO, and it will make their Field Day that much more enjoyable! In addition, you might be able to pick up a few more states towards your Worked All States Award. If you are ambitious, it is very possible that you can achieve the goal of working every state on Field Day weekend alone! For folks new to Field Day, if you are on a single transmitter home station with commercial power, your exchange is simple. You'll simply send your Call, your Class as 1D and your ARRL section. Just be aware you can't call other 1D stations for contest points, but all the other station categories will love for you to give them a call! And if you would like to find a local Field Day group to operate with, this locator will point the way: http://www.arrl.org/field-day-locator Encouraging visitors can change a life (and even affect yours)! When I was 14 years old, a family friend took my Dad and me to a local Field Day on a Saturday evening. That was my first exposure to Amateur Radio. I didn't understand the significance at the time, but the guys had an amazing run going as we arrived at their site. Still, they took the time to explain what was going on, the exchange, and they were completely willing to abandon their run to encourage this shy, 14 year old to take over the mic. I got started, the run resumed and so much was happening, I forgot all about being nervous. Before I knew it I was having a blast! Anyone who has ever been at the bottom of a pile up, running a frequency, knows the thrill. They kindly said I was a natural, and I was hooked! Had it not been for the positive, encouraging spirit of that great group, willing to forego an awesome run for the sake of possibly encouraging a kid, I'd very likely never have become an Amateur Radio operator. I wouldn't be doing what I'm doing today, and there would never have been N3FJP Software for you to use. Those couple hours changed my life and hopefully, through my software, has brought some added enjoyment to yours, too! If you see a visitor with a hint of intrigue in their eye, please offer them that same gracious encouragement that was given to me. It's very possible that you will be helping to shape a destiny, and we will all be better for it! Have Fun! Kimberly and I are planning to run 1E (home station emergency power) from here at the house this time. We hope to work you! Above all, be safe, have fun and enjoy the Field Day experience! If you can get out and operate with a local group, do it! There is nothing else like it! AC Log 6.2 & New Versions of All Contest Software Now Available!
Hi All, I'm excited to let you know that Amateur Contact Log 6.2 and new versions of all my contest software are now available! These enhancements apply to Amateur Contact Log specifically: Automatic Upload to LoTW on Entry From the menu options click eLogs > LoTW and click Enable Real Time Upload at the left (at the bottom of the Upload section). You won't see any notifications when entering QSOs, but each will upload as you press enter. Next time you do an All Since download, the QSOs should be included in the download. As always, QSOs are not marked as sent until you do a LoTW download. Automatic Upload to eQSL on Entry From the menu options click eLogs > eQSL and click Enable Real Time Upload. You won't see any notifications when entering QSOs, but each will upload as you press enter. Automatic Upload to Club Log on Entry (Batches of 10) From the menu options click eLogs > Club Log and click Enable Real Time Upload. After entering 10 consecutive QSOs that haven't been uploaded to Club Log, they will be upload on the 10th as you press enter. These enhancements apply to both Amateur Contact Log and all the latest versions of the contest software: Rig Interface: Icom2 Up until now, Icom 7610 users had to first enable their echo option in their rigs to interface with my software. With the Icom2 selection, that should no longer be necessary. Icom2 should work with all Icoms. Don't forget to change the rig ID in the string for your specific Icom (details here: http://www.n3fjp.com/help/righelp.html) Rig Interface: Yaesu 891 Until now, Yaesu 891 users had to select the Yaesu 991 option for their 891s. Their is now a 891 specific selection. Sending rig commands with PH and CW F keys I have added the ability to play saved voice recordings and CW strings stored in your rig (for rigs equipped with this feature). To send a command instead of playing a wave file (or CW string), precede the command with RI:. For example, when placed in an F key string, the following will trigger the Icom 7300 internally recorded messages: (you must have rig interface enabled and be connected by a com port). Stop xmit RI:FEFE94E0280000FD Play mem 1 RI:FEFE94E0280001FD Play mem 2 RI:FEFE94E0280002FD (and so on...) Of course, users of other Icom rigs will replace the 94 with the rig ID for their rig and users of other rig manufacturers will use different commands entirely. Consult your rig's manual to see if your rig supports this feature and find the appropriate commands. AC Log must be in PH/SSB mode to send the command associated with the F key on the phone set up form. AC Log must be in CW to send the command on the CW set up form. And finally, one last contest software specific upgrade: New Score Distributor Default I modified the online score upload feature to default to the new score distributor created by Bruce, WA7BNM, which feeds both major real time scoreboards. Even if you are just a casual contestor, please be sure to enable the upload! To Upgrade Amateur Contact Log: You'll find AC Log 6.2 here: http://www.n3fjp.com/aclog.html And the steps to upgrade here: http://www.n3fjp.com/upgradestepsaclog.html To Upgrade the Contest Software: You'll find the download link for each program near the top of their respective web pages. Just be sure to first uninstall the previous version as detailed here: http://www.n3fjp.com/upgradestepscontest.html As always, upgrades are free to registered users! Three Other Quick Notes... - More folks are discovering FT8 every day, many of which are running an old version of their TQSL software, which returns a mode error when they try to upload to LoTW. Just upgrade to ARRL's latest TQSL software to correct that error. - To add Republic of Kosovo to your country list, just click File > Download Country Files from AD1C. - I've updated Kentucky In State & Out of State 1.8 to reflect the minor rule changes (power multiplier, bonus station points, and 2M) in place for this year's contest. And in response to the often asked question for which Kimberly and I are very grateful...
