Taig CNC Mill motor leads to GeckoG540 Adapters
Hi all, I have a customer who had a dead Microproto MicroMill 2000HD controller and decided to convert over to a Gecko G540 based controller, but wanted to use the Unipolar motors that came with the CNC Mill. Rather than chop off the existing DIN connectors and replace them with the DB9 connectors that the G540 needs, I made up a set of adaptor leads. I had done the same thing with my mill when the Gecko G540 was first released, but I needed to research and recollect all the information I used many years ago when I first made the leads. This time I have collated the information and done a step by step guide for building the adapter cables. I did this so that next time, I'll have the information handy, but also to have it available for others that want to make their own adapter cables. The write-up can be found here; http://www.homanndesigns.com/info/index.php/projects/34-cnc-projects/71-gecko-g540-to-taig-cnc-mill-motor-lead-adaptors If the link gets mangled, it is under the list of projects here; http://www.homanndesigns.com/info/index.php/projects Cheers, Peter -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- eStore: http://www.homanndesigns.com/store Web : http://www.homanndesigns.com email : sales@... Dynamyte 2400 stepper motor failed
3
I have a dynamyte 2400 my X axis stepper motor just failed, (of course when i really needed to cut something) I need to find a replacement for it, i have been putting off upgrading the 3 motors and the driver, maybe its time for that. Anyway i really need to find a replacement motor for this, has anyone found a replacement? or does anyone know a site that has a big selection of stepper motors? Thanks

What is the next step?
13
Just got a complete CNC machine w/Mach 3. Got the Mach3 downloaded and installed. The machine's axis have all been connected and tested. But this is as far as I've been able to go, at this time. This is a question that probably been kicked around for some time by novices and still comes up from time to time? This senior novice would like to hear from others that have gone through this process and don't mind sharing their expertise. First of all would like to set up a Simple project to get familiar with mach 3 and the machine. Also I believe the next step would be to find a basic Free cad/cam or just a cad to draw a simple accurate drilling project I have in mind? In that respect, would my current mach 3 already have enclosed the programs to this for me, if I took the time to study & learn its capabilities? It seems like an excellent program that has just about thought of everything. That just about does it .... hope this may help? I'm sure I left out some pertinent information so If there be any questions do not hesitate to ask. Sort of in a sticking point on the next step. Os is XP3. A list of some free programs that the Forum can lead me to would be very helpful. Any an all suggestions or direction would be very much appreciated. Thank you for your consideration an assistance. SuperCamXp Videos
SuperCamXp is a three axis machine motion control program. I began writing it in the early 90's. It is a direct CAD interface to the attached machine. Tool paths can be drawn or imported with DXF and HPGL files. Also G&M files can be executed and edited. Recently I created a list of the videos that I have created on how to use the program. SuperCamXp is an alternative to Mach3 that is much easier for a new user to learn and make a machine useful. Here is the link the List of videos. http://www.super-tech.com/root/All_Videos.html http://www.super-tech.com/root/All_Videos.html View on www.super-tech.com Preview by Yahoo

Current playing field

I'm trying to review where we are today software wise and this seems like the best place to get a rounded response. I'm still using TurboCad, vCarve and Mach3 for the quick job process, but I have also used USBCNC with the Eding USB boards and the DXFtogCode converter in that does a good job of providing gcode. An alternative for the Taig mill controller is the Toad4 board and EasyCNC even though it's not designed to feed a parallel port but just wiring up the controller it does a more than adequate job when there is no parallel port available. The above package in general requires a windows base, and as long as 32bit windows is used Mach3 still does it's job, but my development environment is Linux based and has been for years, with a nice XP machine running the TurboCad and vCarve on the side. So I'm playing with the Linux options and trying to decide just where to spend time. FreeCAD is a little heavy going, but takes everything from TurboCad and works nicely with the 3D model libraries from may of my normal parts suppliers and some of the plugins provide some nice developments, but CAM is still a little short on support. It's DXF output drops into vCarve and USBCNC without a problem, and gives more than adequate gcode. Having worked through a list of google results and scanned sourceforge, dxf2gcode looks like a developing option, and being cross platform and 'python' should be easy to integrate into FreeCAD. Has anybody played with it or got any comments on it? I'm While the parallel port was the main link to hardware, the alternative of LinuxCNC over Mach3 was a simple choice on OS, but USB muddies the water, with current options coming with their own machine interface software. I need to review LinuxCNC again, but are there any other areas that need reviewed these days? Just to stir things up a little more :) I'm looking to replace some PLC controllers on automated machines, which just need a sequence of actions via pneumatic valves, sensors and motors. The sort of thing that I've hacked via gcode on Mach3 but now needs a better approach which LinuxCNC may be a no-brainer? It's the graphics display which is putting me off at the moment but that may just be lack of investigation. -- Lester Caine - G8HFL ----------------------------- Contact - http://lsces.co.uk/wiki/?page=contact L.S.Caine Electronic Services - http://lsces.co.uk EnquirySolve - http://enquirysolve.com/ Model Engineers Digital Workshop - http://medw.co.uk Rainbow Digital Media - http://rainbowdigitalmedia.co.uk

New PMDX-424 SmartBOB-IsoUSB is going to Cabin Fever.
PMDX will be at the Cabin Fever EXPO on January 15, 16, and 17 in Lebanon, PA. For show details see: http://www.cabinfeverexpo.com/ We will be showing our new mid-range SmartBOB-IsoUSB controller/breakout board for Mach4. We expect to start selling it in early Febuary. The long rumored PMDX-426 with Ethernet and lots of other goodies has not been abandoned. It is just going to take even longer to get the firmware and plug-in completed. An assembled prototype board will be on display, but not running. There will also be a test concept unit for a small pendant for Mach4. This is a very early prototype and a lot remains to be done before we decide if it will become a regular product. Meanwhile, here is a link to the new PMDX-424 on our web page: http://www.pmdx.com/PMDX-424 It has a lot to offer and represents our next logical step in controllers. There is galvanic electrical isolation of the USB interface to avoid ground loops and improve noise immunity. There are 8 opto-isolated general purpose inputs. There is an on board universal power system that accepts 100 to 240 VAC mains input power, or the alternate version which accepts 12 to 36 volts DC power. Both versions can power NPN proximity sensors. It has support for gantry style machines with 5 motors running 4 axes including future support for gantry squaring. It has one relay and additional logic level I/O for 3 more outputs and for an encoder input. There is support the PMDX-407 Spindle Controller, motherboards including the PMDX-133/PMDX-134 and similar future products, the PMDX-179 external status panel, and future motherboards for easier connection of input sensors. We are looking forward to seeing many of you at the show. Steve Stallings www.PMDX.com

Homann Designs 2015 Christmas Break
Hi All, Another year comes to a close too quickly. Homann Designs would like to take this opportunity to wish all a safe and merry festive season. We would also like to thank all for their support throughout the past year. The new webstore is finally installed (it's always more tricky than imagined), which will help with mobile navigation and brightens it up a bit. We will be closed until the 12th January 2016, taking a long deserved annual family camping holiday in Port Fairy. Hopefully, there won't be too many 40c plus days. Any orders place during this period will be processed once we return on the 12th. We will still be monitoring emails for anything urgent. We wish you a great festive season and look forward to supporting you in 2016.
