Bernalillo County ARES Training Status

When you complete a course, please send a copy of the certificate via US mail or scan an image of the certificate and email it to Mike, K5MJE. When received, the database (and the above report) will be updated.

ARRL Emergency Communication Courses

Bernalillo County ARES/RACES members are encourage to take at least the ARRL Emergency Communication Level I course (EC-001). The level II and III courses are required for those amateurs that are in or aspire to ARES/RACES leadership positions. These courses are available at: http://www.arrl.org/cce/courses.html#ec001

Self Paced Emergency Management Courses

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) offers a number of independent study courses designed to educate you in some of the basic principles of emergency management. Course titles include:

  • National Incident Management System (NIMS), An Introduction (IS-700)
  • Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS-100)
  • Incident Command System, Basic, for Federal Disaster Workers (IS-200.FW)
  • National Response Plan (NRP), an Introduction (IS-800)

It is required that all Bernalillo County ARES/RACES members that will be supporting the city or the county take IS-700 and ICS-100. Members should take these courses before the end of September 2006.

In addition to these courses, there are other courses on disaster exercises, preparedness and response, and earthquakes. Most of these courses include reading a book on the subject and answering an exam. You're issued a certificate of completion and if you desire, for a fee you can get college credit for these courses.
